We recently celebrated the holidays with Best Buy Wonderland, an event where visitors experienced magical moments and got inspired by some of the coolest latest and greatest tech. Learn more about the event and the incredible new products and updates to your favourite devices, so you can enjoy the sights, sounds, and wonders that the season brings in exciting new ways.

Welcome to Tech Wonderland

Amidst the lights, music, and magic of the event, visitors were greeted by a high-tech spin on a classic holiday mainstay: The Santa Smart Sleigh, powered by Google. Not only were they able to play around with a Google Nest Hub Max, but they also met Santa himself and got to control the sleigh’s advanced features with the sound of their voice.

From there, they explored the rest of the Wonderland and enjoyed fantastic holiday experiences presented by our partners.

Discover unique experiences

At the Microsoft Experience, visitors were able to go hands-on with some of the company’s latest and greatest. They created fun custom holiday ornaments at the Surface area, got to know the ins and outs of the new Windows 11, then hopped into a fully immersive racing rig and played the newest edition in the Forza Horizon series: Forza Horizon 5 on the Xbox Series X. Here, they also got the chance to use Microsoft tech to write Santa a fun letter for him to read. When he chose a letter, the person who wrote it would win a great prize!

It didn’t end there! The nearby Sony Experience was a fantastic celebration of audio and visual magic. First, visitors experienced the magic of Sony’s noise cancelling headphones and listened to some great tunes in our home office setup. Then, they stepped into a recreation of a living room decked out with a huge 8K screen and felt the power of the latest and greatest surround sound speakers. Finally, they mavelled at an astounding 100-inch screen showing images so lifelike, you’ll feel like you’re actually there. And while there they could join our contest and see if they could find our Techie the Blue Shirt Elf for a chance to win an amazing home theatre system.

Next, they could head on over to the Fun Zone, presented by Oculus to see how the company’s latest headset, the Oculus Quest 2, can bring amazing games like Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s edge and fitness challenge programs like Supernatural VR Fitness to stunning life. They could also sit down and play on fun retro arcade machines, no quarters needed.

Finally,  they could end their night at the Telus Stage and catch carollers, entertainers, and more as they perform against a festive backdrop of gifts and décor.

Best Buy and Sponsors give back over the holidays

Best Buy’s overall social impact mandate is to build brighter futures through technology. So to capture the spirit of giving, Best Buy has included a donation component to the Tech Wonderland event.

We have chosen two charities to help us tell the story of how we give back to our local communities over the holidays and throughout the year. Two decades ago, we started our Best Buy Scholarship program with BGC Canada (formerly Boys and Girls Clubs Canada) and since then our relationship has grown to include our Holiday Hamper program, our first Canadian Teen Tech Centre, and countless partnerships between local stores and BGC chapters. To celebrate our 20th year of partnership, we will be awarding 20 local BGC families with technology packages to brighten their holidays.

Since 2013 our stores in Quebec have partnered with Manoir Ronald McDonald every holiday. Over the years, this partnership has included employee volunteer activities, donations of technology, and purchasing personalized holiday gifts for each child staying at the house. To recognize this partnership, we will be providing each family with a technology package to help make their stay at the Manoir Ronald McDonald a little brighter.

We are proud to give back to our local communities and appreciate the generous support of Sony Canada Charitable Foundation and Google who have contributed to the technology packages we will be donating as part of this event.

We are also grateful to all of the wonderful sponsors who helped us make this years holiday event possible: including:

Google   /   Microsoft   /   Sony   /   Oculus   /   Telus

Additional Sponsors: ASUS  /  vtech  /  Osmo  /  Arcade1Up  /  Nextbase

  1. This was awesom last year. Will it be available virtual again this year?? Would love to participate again this year. Thanks

    • Hi Daniela,

the event is not virtual this year. Participants must visit the event either in Toronto or in Montreal.

I agree, last year’s event in Vancouver was fun, though it was cut short due to Covid restrictions. Making it a virtual event enabled people to participate despite the restrictions.

best regards and happy holidays to you and your family,
      Martin

  2. I am interested in purchasing a mini tablet – because it is light and will travel easily. DO you have any Black Friday deals on?
