Ah, Valentine’s Day, that one day of the year reserved for the person your love. Instead of going with the usual dinner and movie, why not surprise your loved one with a gaming night-in? There are some amazing co-operative games out there such to create some special moments. Here are some of my favourites you two can try!
Collect moons for your Valentine in Super Mario Odyssey
What’s more romantic than helping your special someone find more Moons in Super Mario Odyssey? The game is actually fully cooperative with one person controlling Mario while the other Cappy. Together you two can explore the game’s many magical worlds hunting for secrets and fun surprises. This is one game sure to take your Valentine’s date to the moon!
A social evening with PlayLink on PS4
With PlayLink, you can play fun, casual games on your PlayStation 4 using your smartphone or tablet. From karaoke with SingStar Celebration to hilarious trivia questions in Knowledge is Power, there’s a variety of games to play. Not only are you sure to have plenty of laughs, but the games are super accessible to boot.
Up for a challenge? Cuphead is your go-to game
Sometimes a good challenge is all you need to really come together. Cuphead fills that spot perfectly! This colourful, animated platforming game is well known for its punishing difficulty when played alone. But team up with your loved one and maybe you’ll finally take down those challenging bosses. Better yet, it’s possible to revive your partner should they perish during a level. Now that’s dedicated love!
Test your communication skills with Snipperclips Plus
It’s no secret that good communication is the secret to long-lasting relationship. So why not pick-up Snipperclips Plus and see if you and your partner have what it takes? In order to solve these puzzles you need excellent communication, and know how to get along as a team.
In order to solve puzzles you’ll need to “snip” your on-screen characters into specific shapes. There’s more than one way to solve each puzzle though! So not only is collaboration key to victory, but you can try again and be creative. It’s such a fun co-operative game, and one sure to make you both giggle (and possibly snort!)

If you’re the type to watch movies together and discuss them for hours then perhaps try a narrative game. These interactive movie games let you choose how to progress the story—and you two can make decisions together!
Two of my favourite narrative games are Life is Strange and his sequel, Life is Strange: Before the Storm. Both games are full of intrigue, with the odd love angle thrown into the mix. Why not spend your Valentine’s Day experiencing these wonderful stories tailor made by your choices!
Get competitive with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Okay, okay, this game is competitive and not cooperative like the rest. But hey, you can’t always work together right? Sometimes it’s good to have a little couple rivalry just for fun! I suggest challenging your Player 2 to a few races in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch. If you’re really a competitive pair though, why not launch the improved Battle Mode and really turn up the heat?
