Top PlayStation games

The holidays are fast approaching and that means it’s time to find the perfect gifts for our loved ones. If you have a PlayStation gamer on your list, I’ve got some game recommendations sure to make them happy. No matter their favourite genre there’s a PlayStation game just right for them!

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the top PlayStation games for the gamer on your holiday shopping list.

Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition

Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition had more nominations at The Game Awards than any other PlayStation game. Rightfully so, too, as it’s the best PlayStation game of the year at least in this gamer’s eyes. Horizon has everything going for it: a strong lead character, incredible story, and exhilarating action.

You play as Aloy, an outcast-turned-hero that sets out to save her people from the dangerous Machines threatening all life. These aggressive robotic creatures come in many different forms: dinosaurs, crabs, horses, deer, crocodiles, and more. Armed with her bow and arrow, Aloy can destroy the machines or attempt to sneak up and hack them. Once hacked the Machines will switch sides and fight alongside you. It’s really cool to see!

Call of Duty: WWII

Call of Duty WWII

For the first time in nearly a decade Call of Duty is heading back to WWII. Call of Duty: WWII gives you practically three games in one: a story campaign, online multiplayer, and Zombies mode. The campaign puts you in the role of Private Ronald Daniels whose platoon is en route to Normandy on D-Day. You play through pivotal battles from the war, including the French liberation and the storming of Nazi Germany.

The online multiplayer for Call of Duty: WWII lets you sign up for a Division and fight for your team. Fan-favourite modes like Free For All, Team Deathmatch, and Kill Confirmed return, and are joined by the all-new War mode. This mode pits 6-against-6 in a series of objectives to complete before time runs out. If cooperative multiplayer is more your thing, head on over the game’s Zombies mode. Here you’ll team up with three other players to take on increasing challenging waves of Nazi zombies!

Star Wars Battlefront II

Star Wars Battlefront II

The big addition to Star Wars Battlefront II is the campaign starring newcomer Iden from the Empire’s elite special forces. The campaign is official canon too and bridges the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. For Star Wars fans this story is a must! When you’re ready for epic multiplayer battles head online for massive 40-player matches. Here you’ll be able to play as your favourite Star Wars characters like Rey, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and more!

NieR: Automata

NieR Automata

NieR: Automata is the sequel to 2010’s PS3 and Xbox 360 cult classic RPG, NieR. The game tells an epic tale of Androids vs. Machines with you playing as the android 2B. Combat in this iteration has been dramatically improved with faster, smoother gameplay. 2B can wield one- and two-handed swords, spears, combat bracers, and can fire bullets from her flying pod helper.

What’s so cool about Automata is how it shifts genres on-the-fly. One minute you’ll be in a 3D world, the next a side-scrolling platformer. There’s even flying segments and top-down bullet hell segments reminiscent of Smash TV. When it comes to presentation NieR excels too—the graphics are stunning and the soundtrack is superb.

Destiny 2

Destiny 2

Destiny 2 is bigger and better than its predecessor is virtually every way. The largest improvement comes with the game’s story: it’s light-years beyond the original. It tells the story of Ghaul, a Cabal warlord who sets his sights on destroying the Earth. As a Guardian you’ll need to recapture your Light and put a stop to this menacing new threat. Destiny 2 also includes a robust shared world with other players where you can participate in Public Events, Strikes, Raids, the PvP Crucible, and more.

NHL 18

NHL 18

EA’s perennial hockey is back this year with NHL 18. It features new defensive and offensive skill stick moves, improved A.I. players, and the all-new NHL Threes. This 3-on-3 hockey mode is arcade-y with faster gameplay, bigger hits, and less penalties. If you want to get straight to the ice for a fast-paced without regular NHL rules, this is the mode for you.

FIFA 18

FIFA 18

Alex Hunter journey continues in FIFA 18 on PlayStation 4. Hunter was introduced in FIFA 17‘s The Journey and this year his story takes him to cities around the world. Once again you’ll have to decide how he reacts to specific situations, ranging from a Fiery, Cool, or Balanced response. FIFA 18 also includes a number of on-the-pitch improvements such as tighter ball control, more natural collisions, and better animations.

Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy

Crash Bandicoot PS4

At one point in time Crash Bandicoot was PlayStation’s unofficial mascot. He helped launch the original PlayStation and was regularly featured in TV commercials. Now you can relive his first three outings with PS4’s Crash Bandicoot: N-Sane Trilogy. All three games have received the full remastered treatment, meaning HD graphics, tweaked controls, and rerecorded soundtrack. Considering you get three timeless classics all on one disc this is a really great value collection.

Grand Theft Auto V

GTA V

Yup, it’s 2017 and we’re still talking about Grand Theft Auto V. Years after launch GTA V continues to be a best-seller on PS4, fans simply can’t get enough. And why not? It offers one of the best stories in gaming and a jam-packed universe to explore. With every purchase of GTA V you also get Grand Theft Auto Online, an ever-evolving online experience. If you’ve yet to play this game, now’s the best time to come onboard!

Gran Turismo Sport

Gran Turismo Sport

Sony’s iconic racing simulation game is back with Gran Turismo Sport. Get behind the wheel of over 140 high-performance cars that look and feel true to life.
