Mega Man X

Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 and 2 includes all eight games X1-X8 from the futuristic Mega Man X series. Not only that, this compilation offers extra ways to experience these timeless games with the all-new X Challenge Mode, Newcomer friendly Easy Mode, Improved visuals, and a Museum Mode.

What makes the Mega Man X series of games different than other Mega Man games are the powerful armour upgrades, wall-jumping, the ability to play as multiple characters and more mature themes.

Mega Man X

Extraordinary games with rich retro visuals

As much as I love the Mega Man series of games, the X series of games are among some of my favourite. Honestly, there is nothing quite like a pixel perfect game from the Mega Man X series of games. The Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 and 2 gives you faithful ports of these fantastic platforming games that retain their sprite based and polygon style.

Having played these games on their original systems when the first released, I found myself leaning towards using the CRT filter for that old school feel. All eight Mega Man X games are presented in their original 4:3 aspect ratio, and you can select to replace the black bars on either end with beautiful game art, much like what you’d see on arcade machines.

Mega Man X

Playing through all eight Mega Man X games, I was reminded why these are such treasured, epic adventures. For one thing, the level designs are simply immaculate, rewarding level memorization and precision gameplay, while rarely feeling deliberately punishing. Every aspect of individual levels―from the floor layouts, to enemy placements, to power-up locations, to traps―seem painstakingly placed to smoothly ramp up the difficulty as you practice and hone your platforming and combat skills.

Maverick Hunting

On top of the impeccable level design and retro graphics, Mega Man X games continue the same level select system from previous games in the original Mega Man series. Each featuring Mavericks—Mega Man X‘s version of powerful end-level bosses—and their domains, which can be challenged in any order. After defeating a Maverick, Mega Man acquires their weapon, and the trick is to figure out the best order to defeat the bosses; since each boss is weak against a specific weapon, and resistant to others.

X Challenge Mode awaits

When you want get in some extra practice, or put your Mega Man X skills to the test, the all-new X Challenge Mode is the place to go. This challenging mode allows you to choose a loadout and take on two bosses from various Mega Man X games. Additionally, there are three difficulty options and online leaderboards.

There’s a nice scaling of the difficulty here, making X Challenge Mode excellent for experienced players to conquer and at the same time serves as a great entry point for newcomers, too. The Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 and 2 will also record your best times for each challenge, as well as allow you to save and replay your favourite runs. This is great for those who like capture and replay their most epic gaming moments, and share them with friends. There’s also global leaderboards for X Challenge Mode, letting you compete against the best in the world.

Mega Man X

A trip down memory lane

Apart from the eight main games (which themselves are enough to recommend this collection), the Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 and 2 also includes a massive museum chock-full of original production art, catalogs of collectible merchandise, a music player filled with new and original music, plus a fully voiced and animated short film that serves as a prologue to the events of Mega Man X. If you love exploring the rich history of Mega Man X, you’ll have a blast in the museum.

I really enjoyed looking at all the different action figures for the Mega Man X series of games that have been released over the years. Not only are there action figures from North America but from Japan as well. You get detailed pictures of all the items along with detailed descriptions.
