Immortals Fenyx Rising

Recently, I went hands-on with a demo of Ubisoft’s upcoming action-adventure game Immortals Fenyx Rising. With a little over a a month to go before release, I was excited to get some valuable time with Ubisoft Quebec’s brand new IP.

The demo starts at the beginning of the game, where Fenyx’s journey begins. We meet the legendary gods Zesus and Prometheus and quickly learn about the dark curse afflicting their world and confront the dangerous titan behind it all, Typhon.

Check out the video below, which was directly captured during my gameplay session. While I would love to be able to share with you the entire session, I’ve edited it to 25 minutes to give you a good idea of my experience. Please note, Immortals Fenyx Rising is still under development and a work in progress.

Save the Gods and prove your heroism

In Immortals Fenyx Rising you play as Fenyx, a new winged demigod, on a quest to save the Greek gods and their home from a dark curse. Only by mastering the legendary powers of the gods, overcoming heroic trials and confronting powerful mythological beasts, will Fenyx be able to take on Typhon, the deadliest Titan in Greek mythology.

Immortals Fenyx Rising

A unique mix of traversal, fight, puzzles and exploration

Developed by Ubisoft Quebec, I instantly reconized similarities in gameplay with their critically acclaimed Assassin’s Creed Odyssey game. As you can see in my gameplay video above, Immortals Fenyx Rising is filled with a unique mix of traversal, puzzles and exploration. In fact, there wasn’t much that I couldn’t climb, jump, or glide to.

What I really liked the most about Immortals Fenyx Rising is its focus on gameplay rather than stats and numbers. In fact, Ubisoft Quebec has made gameplay easy to understand. As a result, combat is fun and addicting to master. Speaking of combat, it’s not just about mashing buttons. It’s all about stringing moves together to create combos on both the ground and the air.

I never got tired of flying with Daidalos’s wings. If I could, I would have spent all my time doing so. There is an in-game skill tree that is easy to understand. And, you collect resources and rewards to unlock upgrade options.

The open world portion I played in, seemed massive and was only a small portion of the game. When released in December, Immortals Fenyx Rising will have 7 distinct regions full of secret locations and challenges based on mythology. I can hardly wait!
