Activision E3

Activision’s CoD: WWII and Destiny 2 on the show floor

While visiting Activision on the E3 2017 show floor, Melanie and I got to demo two most of their most awaited titles. First up was Call of Duty: WWII, and then Destiny 2!

Call of Duty WWII

Call of Duty: WWII

Call of Duty games have long been known for their incredible realism, yet this latest game raises the bar even further. I was instantly amazed at how authentic the experience was, from the piercing sounds of bullets flying by me, to the massive thuds of bombs landing on target. Visually and aurally, Call of Duty: WWII delivers in a big way.

During my hands-on time I got to try the new co-operative multiplayer mode where you team needs to complete a series of objectives. First we had to secure a checkpoint, next we had to repair a bridge that was bombed out, and then we had to escort a truck to a specific location.

While all this is going on, enemies are constantly rushing in to halt your progress. Attempting to repair a bridge in the middle of warfare means your team needs to be very strategic. For example, we had a few snipers on our team to spot incoming enemies and take them out fast, letting our bridge repairers continue their work. This mode was intense to say the least, and I’m looking forward to what else it offers!

Destiny 2

Destiny 2

At the Destiny 2 booth we got to play the all-new Countdown PVP mode. It was 4-vs-4 match where the objective is to either plant a bomb, or defend your zone, depending on which side you’re on. Once a round finish, you switch sides. Winning a round can be done by successfully planting the bomb, or by killing all of your opponents. It’s possible to revive your downed allies, but there is about a 10 second waiting period before revive is enabled.

If you’ve played Call of Duty’s Search and Destroy mode, Destiny 2’s Countdown will feel very familiar. No matter if you’re on the offensive or defensive, communication is paramount in this mode. There are multiple spots you can plant bombs, so on defense you really need to communicate enemy location. On offense, in a couple of rounds my team decided to go for the kill win and ignored planting the bomb completely. The map we were playing on was small too, so enemy encounters were often. It was fast, frenetic, and tons of fun. I can’t wait to play more!
