You can choose to mount it to create a designated theatre room, or you can keep it mobile so one day it’s in the living room for a movie, the next day in the basement for gaming, or in the kids room for a sleep over. How amazing is the BenQ 4K projector

This is probably something that many people are wondering. We asked Erin Lawrence, Editor of Home Theatre on the blog and also a veteran of television news with CTV in Calgary, to try this projector and give us her honest opinion.

In her written review and video review, Erin highly endorsed this projector. Here are some of the highlights of her review:

  1. The picture was amazing, despite her not having a white wall or a projection screen as a backdrop. (She actually projected it onto a blue wall and still she thought the image was great!)
  2. The image was bright, clear and showed accurate, crisp colours, even when the room was brightly lit.
  3. The fan (something that used to drive me crazy on an older projector I once had in my home) was barely noticeable and did not take away from the enjoyment of using this projector.

She also pointed out some of the things that people will consider adding to their home to make the experience even better.

How would you improve your own home theatre experience

Okay so let’s just suppose that you were the winner of this contest. Picture that! Where will you place it in your home? Would you mount it on the ceiling, or keep it mobile so you can move it from room to room?

Importantly, what technology would you need to make the home theatre experience truly complete? I’m not talking about a popcorn maker: that’s a given! Would you be looking to add a projection screen, or would you just choose a white wall (or paint a wall white for this best results). Would you look at getting a surround sound or ATMOS system ?Erin said that the sound from the projector is okay, but your home theatre would be much better with great home theatre audio. Would you add a 4K blu-ray player and start collecting a library of 4K movies to show on this 4K projector?

There are so many possibilities, and I didn’t even talk about home theatre seating. What would you consider adding to your home if you win this amazing projector?

  3. Oh this would be perfect for the basement since it is a longer room. I’d have it mounted on the wall down there and have a projection screen put up. I’d have surround sound and a blu-ray player and an android box. I’d also love to have some power recliners to sit back and enjoy.

  4. We enjoy doing movies in our backyard during the summer, as well hosting a large Superbowl party. We use an older projector right now, that doesn’t have a remote, it doesn’t have HDMI, which makes the viewing fine, but not as good as it can be.

  6. A 4K blue-ray player, and some movies to go with it, would be nice. I think I could probably manage the rest with what I already have.

  8. I couldn’t imagine anything better than winning the projector but if I HAD to choose I think a surround sound system would really seal the deal! That would by far beat any of our friends set ups and we would be the go-to house for all the fun social events and that would just be awesome 🙂

  11. I would mount the projector on the back wall in the tv room. I would get Bladerunner 2049 and some kids movies like Coco and Boss Baby to project in 4K. It would be pretty fun. Connecting it to the Xbox would be pretty cool. I would add surround sound and get a new couch to watch the new projector. Maybe we could get a couple of gaming chairs and a small loveseat. That would work too.

  17. Well… for the perfect home theatre experience, I would have to start with a new home that has a bigger space…

  19. I’d probably see if I could sell it, and start saving for an OLED TV. That’s what I would really want. (Or maybe a new MacBook for work.)

  21. I would have to get a screen as we have no permanent wall space. Surround sound would be a must as well. And the popcorn machine would be a given! How cool would this be! Thanks 🙂

  26. I would mount the projector, then paint the hallway wall on the right side of our TV room white, and sink into the couch that likes to eat people for a movie marathon!

  30. I would keep it mobile because I’d like to use it in different locations, including for business presentations.
    Also, ideally, I’d add a great sound system to enhance the system.

  32. We watch family movies on the one computer in our house. It is terrible when some one needs to work on the computer.

  35. I would need to update my my wall space so I could project on it, get a really comfortable leather sectional, black out curtains and a superb sound system to go with my new BenQ 4K HDR home theater projector.

  39. I would add a surround sound system, a screen for the projector, a 4k video source like a blu-ray player, a bar stocked with all sorts of snacks and a mini fridge full of beverages.

  40. Movies are a big part of our family time. Currently we have a set up in our rec room just on a regular tv for our weekly movie night. I would love to add the BenQ 4K to our movie watching experience! It would be great motivation to get surround sound and a projector screen. We would be fully immersed in our favourite movies! Nothing like being at the movies right in the comfort of your own home. The BenQ 4K would give that to us!

  45. I have an older projector, so I would have to update my receiver for the new projector. Then to make things even better I would add a slushee machine.

  47. If I won, i would need to upgrade the home theatre arrangement we have here (speakers, etc.), new seating furniture, and upgrade the lights in the room.

  50. I need a really big monitor for my work, and for my entertainment I could use a good soundbar,just to keep it entertaining.
