Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

(Four of the new special edition version of this droid are included in this contest’s prizes!)

 

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  2. The best tech toy growing up was probably Walkie Talkies. We were able to run in the neighborhood all we wanted, but get called back to home when we were required.

  6. Love the Razor Power Core 390 Electric Scooter- with 4 boys in the family, there’d definitely be a squabble. lol

  9. The coolest tech toy that I ever got was a miniature Pac-man arcade game. It was just like in the arcade, but lap sized.

  10. I think that the coolest tech toy at Best Buy this year is the Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ 130 x 650mm Telescope (I would LOVE to have one)!

  11. My earliest memory of the coolest tech toy I ever had was definitely my ColecoVision! I loved playing Donkey Kong, The Smurfs & QBert in it, those were my top three favourite games. I remember I’d hold the remote control to my ear & pretend it was some cool phone with its clicky sound dial pad. Lol
    Awesome memories playing with my brother & friends!

  15. The coolest tech toy that I had as a kid (probably wasn’t really a toy, but more of an electronic) was a Sony ShockWave Yellow Discman. It was awesome!!!!

  17. I think the Celestron Discovery PowerSeeker 70 x 700mm Refractor Telescope (21037) is pretty cool. I have always been super interested in space!

  21. Super BB-8 is the coolest! The coolest “tech” toy I got as a kid @ 4 years old was a doll, as tall as I was, that could “walk” if you moved it just the right way. (Needless to say, “tech” wasn’t on the radar then — the most technical toys had wind-up keys!

  26. The coolest tech toy I got as a kid was my Star Wars blaster that made 6 different sounds. Many battles were waged against the Empire in my basement!

  34. The coolest tech toy I received when I was younger was my GameBoy. What made it extra cool was that my big brother was the one who saved up and bought it for me which, as anyone with an older brother probably knows, is a big deal! When your big bro goes from locking you in a room with his farts, tricking you into sticking your tongue on a frozen pole, and biting into a cod liver oil capsule to buying you–with his own money!–the latest and greatest tech toy of the 80s (early 90s?), you feel pretty dang special!

  37. The coolest tech toy I got when I was younger was a robotic piggy bank. You put the coin on its hand and the robot would move his and to his mouth and “eat” the money. I thought it was the best when I was a kid. My next favorite would have to be the Nintendo GameBoy!

  39. The coolest tech “toy” I got when I was younger was a telescope in my early teens. I still have it and love it.

  41. i didnt get any cool toys when i was a kid. i think the only two ‘tech’ things would have been my tamagotchi and my easy bake oven haha

  42. I think the coolest 2016 tech toy available at Best Buy is the WowWee CHiP Robotic Dog. With the ability to respond to behaviour and a built-in location awareness sensor, I this CHiP is definitely a must-have this year!

  44. i think the coolest toys this year according to my kids are the different robots. they all have one they want and none the same! crazy how far toys have come today!
