Gibson is celebrating their 120th anniversary this year and have included a few little nice touches to their guitars.

Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker LPJ

The LPJ has a mahogany body shape, updated with traditional weight relief. This takes some of the heft out of owning a famously heavy Les Paul. The top is two-piece carved maple and the neck is carved to the Classic ’50s rounded shape – deeper than the slim ’60s profile found on many models. The fretboard is rosewood, another classic Les Paul element.

Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker LPM

The LPM and the LPJ are virtually identical guitars except that the LPM model has the Min-ETune system – a self-tuning device that tunes your guitar via motorized tuning pegs. You can select one of twelve different tunings or create your own and save them.

Gibson SG Line Overview

Gibson’s SG (“Solid Guitar”) came after the Les Paul Standard, yet never quite got the same acclaim. But the Gibson SG is a classic. It’s slim, it’s loud and it won’t weigh you down.

The Gibson 2014 SGJ is a big part of Gibson’s 2014 New Model Year. It’s a stripped-down, no-nonsense package from Gibson USA. With simpler aesthetics and a worn-look finish, the SGJ comes in a choice of Vintage Sunburst, Cherry, Fireburst, Rubbed Vintage Burst and Chocolate – all in grain-textured nitrocellulose lacquer.

And there’s no lack of classic Gibson appointments. The SGJ’s body is solid mahogany. The neck is made from hard-wearing maple and glued, not bolted, into the body and carved to a ’50s rounded profile.

The neck has a genuine rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays. It has the latest PLEK-cut nut. Gibson’s new 61 Zebra humbuckers fire-up the 2014 SGJ.
