We also have some great posts on how to make candy apples for a sweet treat. After you check those out, here are 5 ideas you can use right now to have your best Halloween yet.
1. Halloween ideas for your house
You can welcome trick-or-treaters to your home by adding a few decorations. A string of caution tape, some witches, a cauldron, and a ton of pumpkins (don’t forget to carve them!) will add a spooky atmosphere to any yard. For me, the best way to add a scary feel to a yard is by using smart lights like Philips Hue. Once you set up your outdoor smart lights, open up the Philip Hue app and search among the different scary scene options. You can even sync your lights with music to get a really scary effect. My favourite Hue app at this time of year is Hue Haunted House.
You can stream spooky music in your yard by placing Bluetooth speakers in the shrubs or have a few hiding behind your outdoor decor. You can also set up a projector in your window and have it display scary faces or ghosts as they walk past the window.
2. Choose what types of gross and scary food you’ll make
It’s so fun to create Halloween food with shock factor. Intestines made from dough, dip with eyeballs floating, and drinks that will give you a bit of bubble, bubble, toil, and trouble if you have one too many. There are many different recipes you can find, you won’t be able to stop at just one. Start planning for the big night or a party by choosing recipes and gathering your ingredients. Your kitchen will become your laboratory where you can create a whole table full of great dishes that will scare and satisfy your party guests.
3. Choose a few scary movies
Don’t save the scary movies just for Halloween night; instead, embrace the thrills all month long. October is the perfect month to do a movie marathon right in the “safety” of your living room, where you can enjoy chills and thrills without the fear of any real-life ghouls creeping up on you. Choose from the greatest Halloween movies and set one to stream once or twice a week on your big screen. Create a cozy ambiance with popcorn, blankets, and perhaps some pumpkin spice treats, inviting friends over for themed nights where you can discuss plot twists and favourite scares.
4. Create your Halloween treats
Once you have your recipes, it’s time to start creating. October is a great time to try making some sugary treats to share with the family, neighbors, and friends. You can create them to be downright disgusting, like edible bloody Band-Aids. Or go the simply spooky route for younger kids, like chocolate spider cookies. The one prerequisite: they need to be sweet and indulgent. It’s a great way to get kids excited about Halloween. Along with planning their costumes, they will also love to decorate baked goods or iced treats with you.
5. Plan for safety on Halloween night
Trick or treating is the highlight of Halloween. Who doesn’t want to haul home a big bag or pillowcase full of candy? To stay safe during trick or treating, make sure your kids are supervised by an adult or they travel in groups. It’s also a good idea to sort and check your child or children’s bag of candy before they dive in.
