Redecorating a room doesn’t always have to be a big undertaking. If some of the rooms in your place are looking a little boring, there are some easy pieces of furniture that you can add or replace within a room to give your décor a little jolt of energy.

Add a bright accent chair

Whether it’s your living room, office or bedroom you can easily add a pop of colour by putting a bright accent chair in the corner. This bright red accent from the Antonio Collection is made from quality leather and high density foam cushions, making it durable and comfortable. The small, compact size makes it great for smaller spaces, but it can also be used to complement existing furniture in larger seating areas. Another light coloured option is this beige Traditional Fabric Accent Chair. The plush cushioning on this chair guarantees comfort, the neutral colour will easily blend into any design scheme and the linen fabric is easy to clean.

Invest in delicate, light tables

Chunky coffee tables and side tables can really weigh a room down, especially if they are a dark shade. This summer, brighten up your seating areas by replacing your chunky tables with delicate, light side tables and coffee tables. If you have a small space, I like this compact Contemporary Accent Table. It takes less than an hour to assemble, and the table surface is big enough for a book, lamp and drink and there is also a small drawer underneath for storing other items. In regards to coffee tables, I love this Trivia Contemporary Coffee Table from EQ3.  The top is a soft, matte white and the legs are made of solid oak with a clear finish. Depending on the size of your place, this tall, white Two-Piece Nesting Table Set is also great in an entry way, behind a couch or against a wall for displaying photos or books.

Turn on the lights

Though the days are longer, continuing to keep your living space bright after dark is important. Having a lot of lights in a room gives the room a bright, clean look, which is perfect for a summer night, especially in a room with less natural light. If you are wired for ceiling lights, the Zuo Asteroids Modern Ceiling Lamp will brighten up the whole room with the flick of a switch. If you don’t have wiring for a ceiling lamp, the Zuo Neutrino Modern Floor Lamp will make quick work of lighting any room. To light up your favorite reading area, choose a downward angled floor lamp like the dark bronze, vintage designed Francois Floor Lamp. Finish off the look with a couple of table lamps for our large selection, such as this delicate Crestview Sadie Table Lamp or this funky Zuo Pulsar Table Lamp.

Speaking of summer nights, great lighting does not need to be limited to inside. Brighten up your outdoor spaces with some individual lights, like the Allsop Cylinder Solar Boaters Lantern. This LED lantern is solar powered so it collects energy throughout the day from sunlight to power the light at night and is a great, safe alternative to flame lighting.

Complete your bedroom with a headboard

Most people spend more than a third of their lives sleeping so make your bedroom a bright and relaxing space. An easy way to upgrade your bedroom is by adding a headboard to your bed. Fabric headboards are really trendy right now, and this bright, light coloured Dorel Living Upholstered Headboard with Nailheads is a great option. If you prefer a modern look, I love the minimalist, unique design of this Crosston Modern Headboard. Further brighten up your bedroom for summer by investing in some new, bright bedding like the Maholi Rare Orchids Collection Duvet Cover Set.

Brighten up your seating areas with accessories

One of the easiest way to upgrade your living room décor is by switching up your seating area accessories. Start by adding a few bright throw pillows to your couches and chairs. I love this Blue Triangle Decorative Pillow (also available in yellow and orange) or this Urban Loft Tetris Rectangle Cushion (also available in square). You can also put down a bright, new area rug. Depending on how colourful your living room is, I love this multi-coloured area rug from Nahavand, the many colours contained in the rug make it easy to choose matching throw pillows and blankets. This Kerrisdale Shag Area Rug is also a great option for a brighter, more neutral look.

Though summer can make your living spaces brighter, it can also highlight when your décor has become a bit tired. Brighten up your home with 5 simple decorating ideas: a bright accent chair, delicate side tables, bright lighting, a minimalist headboard and accessories to add a pop of colour. Adding some of these items will add new life to every room of your house and will keep your spaces clean, bright and comfortable.
