A dedicated gaming keyboard, like those from SteelSeries, can make a whole lot of difference for work and play. I tried calculating it! On average people can type 40 words per minute. For professional writers spending eight hours of work writing, that’s an average of over 19,000 words a day in total. Now, that’s a lot! And also, a lot of stress on the hand. So for hardworking individuals who go into overdrive with their fingers, it pays to have a great keyboard. But doubly so for gamers: after a long day’s work you need a responsive keyboard designed to give you an edge over the competition. The SteelSeries prizes in this contest will definitely give you that edge!

A gaming keyboard dedicated to your day-to-day

Many of the office jobs today require long hours with our hands on a keyboard—writing emails, crunching numbers on a sheet, or what have you. You may not notice it each day, but that typing will take a toll on your hands. In my experience, many keyboards out there are not designed for the demands of day-to-day productivity AND the mostly intense needs of a PC gamer.

I’ve owned a few computers for school and for work. The keyboards provided with many of them don’t actually contribute to faster work. The customizable, mechanical keyboards designed with gaming in mind, deliver a boost to productivity of any kind.

The Apex line of keyboards from SteelSeries

The Apex keyboard line from SteelSeries boasts features I think would definitely improve anyone’s productivity—and not to mention, make gaming a lot more fun. Whether in TK or TKL, you can select from the Apex 3, Apex 5, Apex 7, to Apex Pro. Read Marcus Wong’s review and watch his video to learn about his experience using the Apex 7 and Pro keyboards. I won’t discuss everything he mentioned; instead, I’ve selected my four favourite things found in Apex keyboards:

Faster response and actuation

Who doesn’t want faster keys? The Apex Pro boasts of 8x faster response time and 5x faster actuation; each key allows for easy use and control with less effort. Plus, the OmniPoint mechanical switches allow you to set per-key sensitivity. This is a big plus for me. Spending all day typing, setting the action of each part of the keyboard to the way I want it will reduce the strain on my hand. For gaming, the fast reaction time of the keyboard give you better control of your game characters, for overall better gameplay.

OLED Smart display

The OLED Smart Display in the Apex 7 and Apex Pro lets you do many things on the fly. It acts as your integrated command centre by giving quick access to settings and useful information straight from the games and apps you frequently use. Change your profile. Adjust the volume. View stats from games, such as health, skills, power, or money. Quickly connect with who’s chatting with you on Discord—all of these without having to switch from one tab to another.

Using the Smart Display you can easily choose among various keyboard settings that you need. You can select from up to 102 customizable programs to set your keyboard in a way suitable to the game you play.

Improved durability

Another thing that I like about the Apex keyboards is the way each keycap is built. The Apex Pro construction is designed to guarantee 100 million keystrokes. You can’t underestimate how many keystroke any person can make a day. You’ve read my calculation in the introduction—it’s a lot! And, it also varies depending on the way each person work with their keyboards, with some more passionate than others. I know I am. I’ve had one keyboard that, just after less than a year of using, a couple of keys faded and I did have to buy a plastic cover to stop them from getting worse. No matter how familiar you are with the keyboard layout, a keyboard with worn out labels slows you down.

The Apex 3 has water-resistant design that not only lets your keyboard withstand accidental spills, but also allows water from under the keys to flow out of the keyboard. It’s made perfectly for anyone who likes having beverages on the same table as their computers.

RGB Backlight

Last but definitely the most fun feature is the RGB Backlight. I like how colourful and dynamic it makes your typing experience. You can choose between red, green, blue or all colours. I also like the ripple effect it creates each time you press a key.

Whether for work or gaming, consider the SteelSeries Apex keyboards and other line of products.

  6. I want a SteelSeries gaming keyboard because the backlit keys will add the most to my productivity when I am under low light conditions.

  7. Honestly, the keyboard or headset would be the most beneficial for me. Both of mine are falling apart at this point. Unfortunately doing a master’s in Physiotherapy doesn’t allow me to have a job and replace these things.. I would greatly appreciate it so I can study a bit more efficiently.

  8. I would love to win this wonderful SteelSeries gaming keyboard giveaway for work and gaming, love dies light’s and does keyboard its would look wonderful on my desk

  9. I think for me a new headset would be great. The apex pro wireless headset is amazing with its swappable batteries and ability to use Bluetooth at the same time as being wireless from the computer, listening to music or taking a phone call without having to do any swapping of inputs.

  10. I’ve been eyeing a new keyboard for a while. The one I have now is…fine. Its a cheapy one I bought back when I was a student. I recently bought a new mouse, so having a new keyboard to match would make my work-from-home life alit nicer.

  11. Hi Best Buy! My name is Haider Syed and I am currently a University of Toronto student in his 3rd Year. The reason behind why I need this keyboard is mainly due to the fact that my laptop keyboard is currently broken, as most of the keys do not seem to work. It’s quite stressful needing to go to the library/borrow family members’ devices in order to keep up with the hard workload of the university. Having this keyboard will allow me to continue and perform better in my classes for school, I would really appreciate this opportunity!

  12. I want a SteelSeries gaming keyboard for gaming as programmable buttons are a necessity. The SteelSeries Apex Pro Backlit Mechanical OmniPoint Gaming Keyboard will add the most to my productivity because with it I can start to clear out my giant backlog of games I want to play.

  13. I would really love a keyboard and headset! Thanks for this opportunity, I am a student and this would be great for studying, working, gaming, and calling my family.

  14. I would love a SteelSeries gaming keyboard for my setup. it would be nice to have a quality keyboard given all the hours I’m at my desk. The SteelSeries product that would add the most to my productivity would be a new keyboard!

  15. Would love to replace my ‘stock’ Lenovo keyboard with a programmable keyboard. I think for my productivity,
it’s the keyboard for me as I’m satisfied with my Logitech mouse and HyperX headphones.

  16. My boyfriend just got a new monitor for the first time, but doesn’t have a keyboard yet! He’s been using his laptop to type and it’s kinda sad. He was looking at so many different keyboards and they all looked like this but we’re university students so they were out of his budget, so I’m going to go learn every custom programmable buttons it has to enter this contest!!!! This would be perfect for him to play games, work, and my goal is to help make a setup nice enough for him to show off to his friends.

  17. A new keyboard with RGB will definitely give my home office a super cool looking and enable me to enjoy my apex legend better! Also, if possible, a new headset will save me from hurting my ears, from this cheap headset I got from my work haha

  18. I would love to have a SteelSeries gaming keyboard for my son. He’s really into his games and his job requires him to pay games too.

  19. A keyboard with a number pad and the LED would be ideal for night time. I know my Mom would 100% want that. But for me, I’d go with the headphones, on the basis for gaming, I play racing games, so if you want to speak to your race engineer (ie you want to pit, or you need an update on the other drivers), it is easier to do the communication on the headphone that has a built in mic, instead of pressing multiple buttons on your controller/wheel whilst racing.

  20. I would love a SteelSeries gaming keyboard for work – it would be nice to have a quality keyboard given all the hours I’m at my desk. The SteelSeries product that would add the most to my productivity would be a new keyboard.

  21. I would love to win the keyboard, I absolutly need the one that has the waterproof feature as well Coffee really is a must!

  22. I would love to win the keyboard, I absolutly need the one that has the waterproof feature as well you know coffee is a must lol Thank you for the chance to win.

  23. Would love that nice Apex 7 TKL for maximum workspace on my desk – and to be ready to switch from work to gaming at a moment’s notice!

  24. The mouse would be the best for me. My MSI laptop already comes with a SteelSeries keyboard but my trackball, as awesome as it is with everything else, can’t touch a gaming mouse.

  25. A new keyboard would be great because I’m starting my first new job after being out of work due to COVID! Really nervous but excited!

  26. The SteelSeries gaming keyboard would be helpful for both work and gaming, so that I can use it during work and on off hours too! The keyboard looks great but would also be so useful

  27. I’ve been enjoying my Steelseries Apex Raw keyboard for years and still love it for everything it has done for me, but it is aging. An Apex Pro Keyboard breaks barriers in how technology has moved forward with design and ergonomics. This would be a prize and a half to anyone, and if not there’s a chance Santa may be listening.

  28. I would use al of this for gaming/working and gift some to my family members. A new headset would be the most useful to replace my old earbuds

  29. A Steelseries Apex Pro Keyboard looks awesome, I would love to have one for my gaming hobby. I like the OLED display on the keyboard and the profile option would be really helpful for the many genres of games I play. My current keyboard has seen better days since early 2010s and I am excited to give my full attention to a new keyboard.

    Power to the Gamers!

  30. Apex Pro keyboard + Arctis Pro wireless headset. Is what I would really like to try. Thank you for the opportunity

  31. I would appreciate a SteelSeries keyboard because of the fast response times. A new keyboard would help way more than a mouse or a headset.

  32. My current Logitech keyboard is falling apart. Would love to try a new steel series board.
I use my current one for both gaming and work, mainly work – and would love some new blues to type away on!!!
Also I think I’d get the most benefit out of a new headset. Currently rocking an old turtle beach set from my Xbox 360 days.

  33. It will be great replacement for my 10 years old keyboard. For headset? I do not have one…wife..took mine… Mouse will look nice without my steelseries mousepad:D

  34. A new keyboard would be great, the one I have now randomly sticky keys the . which can be frustrating when playing a game or even trying to log into windows after booting.
A new headset would up productivity the most how ever as the SteelSeries Siberia v2 that I’m currently using is getting a smidge aged, crackles and creaks, making it harder to hear when someone is sneaking up.

  35. A keyboard would be my top as it would help with my productivity for school work. I currently use a very cheap keyboard that sometimes lags with typing input so this would be an amazing upgrade! Plus the RGB lights look really cool.
