 GoPro’s been tantalizing customers and video buffs alike with hints about new cameras, and a drone.  What was revealed at CES 2016? We were at their booth, and listening to their CEO to find out.

DJI, one of the leading consumer drone manufacturers, didn’t show off a brand new model at CES this year, but did announce a couple of key upgrades to its current lineup. The Phantom 3, one of the best drones of 2015, now goes 4K in a consumer model, while the Inspire 1 Pro Black Edition changes the colour scheme and gets a new camera.

Comparing drones at CES isn’t really an easy task because they all generally do the same thing, albeit with a variety of technical differences that make them stand out from one another. Yuneec may not be a household name in this category, but with the Typhoon H, it’s taking on the best in the business in 2016.

While flying cars have yet to materialize and time travel is still a ways off, I’ve been finding comfort in the fact that smart kitchens are starting to become a reality. Panasonic showed off a whole bunch of connected kitchen appliances at CES 2016, plus it has what might be the coolest and most versatile TV I’ve ever seen. It’s invisible! VR, or virtual reality, is a big deal, not just at CES 2016, but in its sheer potential to wow users with the expansive content it’s capable of producing. The HTC Vive is getting closer to reach for consumers, and is among the most intriguing devices at the show this year. I got some extended hands-on time with it, coming away with a good impression.

Seeing future trends before they become reality is fun, but in our instant-gratification society, we also want innovation and we want it now. Whirlpool gives you the best of both at its booth at CES; from the “Kitchen of the Future” to laundry pairs you can get today hold a month’s worth of soap and then tell you when you’re out.

Parrot has already shown its latest fixed wing Disco drone at CES this year, but there’s also the Bebop 2, a successor to the company’s previous quadcopter that came to Canada last year. Parrot did a neat synchronized demo with about eight of the drones at the company’s booth. A smaller frame and more capable flying mechanics make this an interesting unit.

With 2015 on the books, it’s time to start looking ahead at the exciting video games that will be kicking off a new year. The month of January is traditionally a quiet period for gaming, but with big name franchises like Resident Evil, Mario & Luigi, Life is Strange, Final Fantasy, and LEGO all getting new releases, there’s something for everybody coming out soon. Walking into the Sony booth I was looking around for their new TVs to check out at CES. I was wondering why they weren’t more prominently displayed when I realized they were actually not that far in front of me. I couldn’t see them initially because I was viewing them from the side, and they’re so thin they practically disappear.
