Marathon makes the world’s most relied upon military watches

Do you own a Marathon watch? If not, you’re missing out on one of Canada’s best kept secrets. Family owned and operated since its 1939 founding by Morris Wein, Marathon watches have come to be known and respected worldwide.

Much of this respect is owing to Marathon’s status as the watchmaker of choice for Allied Forces around the globe. Thanks to their Canadian design, rigorous examination, and extreme-weather testing, Marathon watches meet the unique demands of today’s military personnel. They’re built to last in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, where they are meticulously hand-assembled by expert watchmakers in Marathon’s factory.

In addition to their innovative designs and high standard of build quality, Marathon watches also offer great variety in both form and function. Marathon’s general purpose quartz watches, pilot’s navigation watches, and even diver’s watches are designed for Search and Rescue personnel. Of course, anyone can proudly wear a Marathon!

The Marathon Search and Rescue (SAR) Dive Watch

One of Marathon’s most durable watches to date is their Search and Rescue (SAR) Dive Watch. Built to ISO 6425 standards and capable of withstanding even the most extreme conditions—to depths of up to 30 ATM, or 300 meters, the water resistant SAR was designed for use by Search and Rescue divers.

The SAR is powered by the Marathon M2 engine, a 26 jewel automatic movement of impeccable quality. Other features of the SAR include self-contained tritium gas tubes at each hour marker for constant and even illumination—even at acute depth. With the SAR, you won’t need to pre-charge your watch with an external light source, as is necessary for watches that exclusively utilize photo-luminescent paint.

Available in 36mm, 41mm, and 46mm bezel sizes, there’s a SAR model available for every adventurer out there. With its proud Canadian design and expert Swiss manufacture, the Marathon Search and Rescue Diver combines the best of military toughness and Swiss craftsmanship.

The Marathon Pilot Navigator (NAV)

Also available from Marathon is the Pilot’s Navigator Watch. This watch was first developed in 1986 at the request of the Kelly Air Force Base. They required a watch that was capable of withstanding severe changes in pressure at high altitudes, which led Marathon to develop the NAV—a military pilot’s navigation watch featuring quartz precision and Swiss craftsmanship.

The NAV, available at 41mm in black, sage green, and desert tan, is built to strict (MIL-PRF-46374G, Type I, Class 1) military specifications. Designed to withstand and surpass the high demands of the pilots and parachutists that use it, the NAV is also proudly worn by many law enforcement agents and officers.

Other features of the NAV include an End-of-Life (EOL) indicator and self-contained tritium gas tubes at each hour marker, along with MaraGlo at the 12 hour bezel marker, which allows it to provide illumination and visibility under any lighting conditions. No matter where you go, the Navigator will not dull down in brightness.

The Marathon General Purpose Quartz (GPQ) Watch

Marathon also offers the General Purpose Quartz (GPQ) Watch—a highly accurate model built to strict (MIL-PRF-46374G, Type I, Class 1) military standards that meet the field demands of infantry personnel.

Powered by a high torque, 3 jewel, Swiss ETA quartz movement, the General Purpose Quartz Watch is accurate to -0.3/+0.5 seconds per day. It features a high-impact fibre-shell case that combines superior durability with minimal weight, making it a true all-purpose watch that’s sure to be your constant companion for many years to come.

Additional features of the GPQ include an End-of-Life (EOL) indicator, self-contained tritium gas tubes and a MaraGlo bezel marker at the “12” position for illumination, a 3mm thick sapphire crystal lens for clarity and superior scratch resistance, and 3 ATM—30 metres of water resistance. Like all Marathon watches, this brilliant timepiece was designed in Canada and manufactured in Switzerland to the highest quality standards.
