Meet the new Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool Formaldehyde air purifier

Dyson has an extensive line-up of air purifiers, including models in the Hot+Cool line. And the newest addition is the Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool Formaldehyde, which also works to rid the air in your home of that harmful colourless gas pollutant.

Formaldehyde can enter the home through off-gassing or combustion, through sources like particleboard, fibreboard, hardwood plywood paneling, wallpaper, cardboard, paper products, drapery, glues, paints, varnishes, and floor finishes, according to the Canadian government. Since it’s 500 times smaller than even already tiny 0.1-micron particles, formaldehyde is difficult to capture. But high exposure can cause a host of issues, from a burning sensation in the eyes, nose, and throat, to worsening asthma symptoms. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) says formaldehyde is “carcinogenic to humans.”

Dyson’s new Purifier Hot+Cool Formaldehyde works similarly to its other air purifiers to rid the air of harmful pollutants, but now adds formaldehyde to that list1.

Precisely targets and gets rid of formaldehyde

At the heart of the machine is its ability to sense and get rid of formaldehyde in the air, confirmed through third-party testing based on GB/T 18801-2018 formaldehyde cumulative clean mass testing.

The intelligent formaldehyde sensor continuously senses and destroys the pollutant through the entire life of the machine. Formaldehyde can be found from many sources you might not even think of, including tobacco smoke, oil burning appliances, or even smoke from fireplaces and wood-burning stoves. And it can exist in the air for up to years before dissipating completely.

Like other Dyson purifiers, the Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool Formaldehyde also cleans the air of other harmful particles and odours, including NO2, bacteria, pollen, mould spores, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Its temperature and humidity sensors help maintain the right temperature in the room to keep you comfortable and help detect conditions that could contribute to things like mould growth.

HEPA filtration through the entire machine

HEPA filtration isn’t just found in the HEPA filter itself, the entire machine is fully sealed to HEPA H13 standards2. The HEPA filter can capture 99.97% of particles three times smaller than a human hair (as small as 0.3 microns in size), including allergens, bacteria, pollen, and mould spores.

This is combined with the Selective Catalytic Oxidization (SCO) filter, which destroys formaldehyde at a molecular level after the HEPA and active carbon filters capture and trap it.

Smart, effortless purifying

If desired, you can simply turn the Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool Formaldehyde on and let it do the work thanks to the Auto mode which allows for intelligent purification. In Auto mode, the air purifier uses an algorithm to monitor the air quality in the room and react to purify it when needed.

Of course, in addition to cleaning the air, the purifier also works to project purified air throughout the room, whether you want to cool yourself down in the summer or get some supplemental heat in the winter. It uses Dyson Air Multiplier technology to ensure even distribution of clean, purified air.

You can control the unit and keep track of the data and what the device is doing using the intuitive Dyson Link app3. Use Google Home (English only), Amazon Alexa, or Apple Siri to control it by voice (Refer to the Dyson Link app for compatible voice services.).

1 Third party full machine testing based on GB/T 18801-2018 formaldehyde cumulative clean mass testing with continuous injection until plateau of formaldehyde CADR is achieved. Results may vary in practice.

2 Particle challenge by DEHS oil specified in EN1822 within a chamber specified in ASTM F3150. Tested in Max Mode at IBR US, for whole machine efficiency above 99.95%.

3 Requires device to run app, Wi-Fi or mobile data, Bluetooth 4.0 support, and iOS version 10 or Android version 5 (or above). Standard data and messaging rates may apply. App control doesn’t apply to heating.
