Growing up my Grandma would participate in a cookie exchange. I was too young to really understand what was happening, but certainly liked all the cookies she was making. She made delicious cherry ball cookies that 40+ years later I still think about!
My cooking story is when I was 2. I had a neighbour I called her Nana Roe. Her house always smelled like gingerbread cookies, the scent seemed to seep through the cracks of the house and make their way into mine often. I remember her inviting me over to help one day, I tried the dough raw and we baked. One of my favourite holiday memories.
The pasta attachment would be very useful in our family , I always wanted to make homemade pasta.
Making traditional Greek sweets at Christmas time with my mom, including almond cookies coated in icing sugar called “kourabiethes” and Lenten koulouria, a figure eight shaped biscuit made with orange flavoring. And of course, making gingerbread men, snickerdoodles and shortbread cookies. Such happy times in the kitchen, with the smell of delicious baked goods filling the air, and the fun of icing our cookies with french vanilla icing, maraschino cherries and sprinkles!!!
