De’Longhi Dinamica automatic espresso machine review

Making espresso is a skill. While it takes years for baristas to perfect their skills using manual espresso machines, there is an easier way for everyone who wants to create lattes, flat whites, and cappuccinos at home. An espresso machine like the De’Longhi Dinamica LatteCrema Automatic Coffee and Espresso Machine creates so many different coffee beverages with a tap on the screen, and when it’s done it will clean out the grinds and purge the steamer.

The De’LonghiDinamica is a super-automatic espresso machine. It does everything from grind your espresso beans to dose, tamp, and extract. The LatteCrema steamer even lets you choose how much or how little milk foam you’d like, and it can foam all kinds of milk including oat milk, almond milk, and more.

I tested the De’Longhi Dinamica out for a few weeks. Here’s what I thought of this luxe espresso machine.

Testing De’Longhi Dinamica automatic coffee and espresso machine

Setting up the De’Longhi Dinamica was very easy. Once you have it placed on your counter and plugged in, all you need to do is fill up the water reservoir, add your coffee beans, and let it heat up. It took about a minute for the machine to heat up, so there isn’t a long wait time between adding water and making espresso.

I really appreciate a water reservoir like the one on the De’Longhi Dinamica. It’s placed on the side of the machine and it’s clear so you can just glance and see if you need to add water. Some espresso machines have the water reservoir on the back and it’s hidden, so you have to rely on the machine to tell you water needs to be added.

There is a water filter you can add if you’d like to. I always use filtered water so I didn’t use it, but it’s nice to have the option.

Whole beans or ground?

This is the first espresso machine I’ve tested that offers you the choice of using whole beans or pre-ground coffee. There is a spot you can add your beans and the machine will grind them for you, but there is also a spot to add ground coffee if you just want to make coffee and not espresso.

If you choose to grind whole beans the conical burr grinder has 13 different settings you can use to customize your grind. Having the burr grinder built-in is amazing because it takes a step out of the espresso-making process, and when you grind your beans straight into the hopper you know you’re getting the freshest grinds for your drink.

LCD touchscreen lets you choose all types of coffee

There are so many different specialty coffees to choose from on the De’Longhi Dinamica. You can scroll through the menu by touching the up or down button. I had a few false starts where I thought I choose one drink but it started brewing the one below it, so I had to be mindful of which drink was highlighted.

LatteCrema system

I love the LatteCrema system on the De’Longhi Dinamica. The container holds enough milk for two lattes or other milk-based drinks, and you can choose the level of foam you’d like on your drink. I always opted for maximum froth and it definitely delivered. It’s self-cleaning too, and the machine will prompt you to slide the selector to clean mode after you’re finished making your drink.

The other thing I love about this system is that it’s easy to clean. My own espresso machine creates great milk foam, but I have to clean the wand right after or it’s hard to remove the scalded milk. The Latte Crema system has a smaller wand that never touches the milk, and it uses a rubber straw to draw the milk into the frother and out into your glass. After it dispenses it cleans itself and you’re ready to make another beverage.

Customize and save your hot beverage favourites

The menu on the De’Longhi Dinamica lets you save your preferences under your own drink menu. You can choose it right on the touchscreen, and anytime you have a favourite drink or want to tweak your drink you can save it to your menu.

Quality of specialized beverages

There are so many great coffee beverages you can make with this espresso machine, and some of them I’ve never even tried before. You can make a latte, double espresso, flat white, or espresso macchiato. When you’re making a flat white you can customize how much milk you add, so you can let it go until it stops or tap stop when you’d like to.

No matter what I made, everything turned out great. I didn’t use espresso beans, but all of the shots had a nice head of crema. The taste was never bitter, and you can tell the beans were freshly ground.

TrueBrew over ice

I had to try out the TrueBrew option that lets you make iced coffee straight out of the espresso machine. I put a cup of ice under the machine, waited a few minutes, and it began pouring the shot. I let it sit for a minute or two and felt the cup. It wasn’t ice cold,  but it wasn’t warm either. After adding a shot of cold milk and some sweetener, I had a great glass of ice-cold coffee.

Should you choose the DeLonghi Dinamica automatic espresso machine?

The De’Longhi Dinamica takes care of every step of the espresso-making process. It’s such an easy to use machine, and every drink I made was delicious. If you’ve always wanted to have an espresso machine but didn’t want to learn to make the perfect shot or how to froth milk, the De’Longhi Dinamica would be the perfect choice for you. Not only does it do everything from grind, dose, and tamp, it dumps the grinds for you too.

This espresso machine has a varied drink menu, and you can save your favourites so your cup of coffee will always be customized. I also like how you can use your own pre-ground coffee to brew up a cup of coffee whenever you’d like one. That means this machine can take over brewing your morning cup of coffee and make you an espresso or latte whenever you want one.
