DF-09633.jpgFilm synopsis

Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) believes he has put his mysterious past behind him. But when McCall meets Teri (Chloe Grace Moretz), a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can’t stand idly by – he has to help her.

My thoughts on the film

Let’s be honest, everyone has a select few of actors/actresses where you know whatever film they star in, it’s going to be good.  This is the case for Denzel Washington. Sure, there might be a few where you shrug your shoulders at, but he is most definitely one of the rare actors who put out good films. Rumour has it that Russell Crowe was actually supposed to play the role of Robert McCall, but thank goodness that did not happen. I mean, no offense to Mr. Crowe, but if this type of film was to succeed, it needed some Denzel. The Equalizer also stars Chloe Grace Moretz, who I must admit, has been rising up the rankings. She was great in If I Stay and soon-to-be released Laggies looks to be another knockout performance for Ms. Moretz.

Let’s cut to the chase. How good is The Equalizer? Well, to put it simple, it’s good. Denzel Washington was of course classic butt-kicking Denzel and I thought Chloe Grace Moretz was great. The Equalizer starts off a bit slow as you patiently wait for the action to kick in, but when it kicks in, it kicks in hard. There were some scenes where you might look away because it was a tad gruesome, but hey, it doesn’t reach any horror film type gore. But with director Antoine Fuqua behind the cameras (Training Day), he makes the violence actually look good, if that makes any sense. I’m not going to spoil too much because that’s not how I am, but the ending was pretty epic.

Rating 4/5

The Equalizer might be your typical action film, but it’s a bit better because Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua on the same team will always deliver. It’s enjoyable and that’s all it comes down to.

The Equalizer is now in theatres.
