medium.jpgPersonal care items are, well, pretty personal. But if you have an idea of what that special someone on your list (a significant other or child, perhaps) likes, these items can be useful and practical gifts that are always appreciated.

It’s Day 10 of our 12 Days of Christmas gifts, and Phillips with everything from toothbrushes and related attachments to shavers and trimmers, they have some great ideas to help you finish off your Christmas shopping.

Electric Toothbrush

I swear by my electric toothbrush because not only does it do a better cleaning job (in my opinion, but also backed up by my dental hygienist) but the light vibration to indicate when two-minutes brushing time is up is a great motivator to ensure that you brush for the required amount of time for proper cleaning.

The Philips Sonicare 2 Series Plaque Control Toothbrush has such a smart timer feature to encourage the full two minutes of brushing. It brushes with 31,000 strokes per minute, helping to clean your teeth and along the gumline. The intensity slowly increases over the first 14 uses to help new users get comfortably with the process. The battery lasts for about two weeks, after which it needs to recharge for about four hours. Or, you could keep it docked on the charger when not in use as I do in my bathroom.

Adding another intensity level, the 3 Series version focuses on reducing redness, swelling, and bleeding, and can be safely used on orthodontics, dental work, and veneers. Philips says it helps removed six-times more plaque than a manual brush.

For a more stylish option, the Sonicare DiamondClean Sonic Toothbrush boasts a fun, pink or black finish, making it look almost like a tech toy, not a personal card device. It’s ultra-powerful as well, removing up to seven times more plaque than a manual brush, and helping to result in whiter teeth in one week, says Philips. The diamond-shaped bristles help to create multiple scraping surfaces for tricky plaque.

Encourage good hygiene habits from an early age with the Sonicare Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush for Kids which comes in fun designs, and includes the two-minute smart timer feature, as well as a kid pacer that alerts them when its time to move to the next quadrant so they don’t spend the entire duration on the bottom or top teeth alone, for example. Plus, it comes with 10 design stickers to customize the brush as desired.

The great thing about setting someone up with one of these is that replacement brush heads make awesome follow-up stocking stuffer gifts since they need to be replaced about every three months, just like with regular toothbrushes. You can choose from a number of options, including a two-pack of Diamondclean brush heads, a three-pack of Sensitive brush heads, or a pair of standard brush heads.

Electric Shavers

Philips’s SensoTouch 2D Electric Shaver can be used for both wet and dry shaves, achieving an ultra-close cut. The GyroFlex 2D system adjusts to your face’s curves for a more comfortable and effective shave, with less irritation. Plus, it comes with a precision trimmer for grooming mustaches and sideburns. Charge it for an hour and you’ll get up to 50 minutes of cordless power. That’s the equivalent of about 17 shaves, or two and-a-half weeks up at the cottage or ski cabin.

For a more simpler, secondary option, there’s the PowerTouch Men’s Shaver, which has a Super Lift and Cut system for a comfortable and close shave. It can run for 40-plus minutes without a cord on a single charge; or quick charge it for three minutes for a quick shave before you head out the door for a meeting or night out. It’s also fully washable, and there’s a quick rinse hair chamber, something any man will appreciate.

Trimmers & Grooming

philips 8 piece grooming kit.jpgThe “hipster beard,” as it has become known, is all the rage with men these days. So a beard trimmer is a perfect gift for the grisly man on your list.

While the Philips Style Xpert Beard Trimmer might not be for the particularly gruff, it will be ideal for those with more manageable facial hair. It comes in a cool, chrome and black finish, and will help him keep his beard in perfectly-primped. It comes with a laser guide, and is dual-sided to get all of those hard-to-reach spots for an intricate, detailed trim. Use the zoom wheel to lock in the perfect length setting.

For the particularly metrosexual man who’s all about the “manscaping,” there’s the 8-piece Grooming Kit that will let him style everything from his hair to beard and moustache with great detail. There are more than 35 length settings, and a 12-length for detail/stubble, 18-length for the hair clipper comb, and 18-length for the beard and moustache. Use the nose trimmer to get those pesky extra-long hairs, and the foil shaver for a close finish around the edges. Whether he opts for a five o’clock shadow, caveman full-ength beard, or sharp edges a la the ‘80s boy band, there will be a grooming piece to meet his needs. The set comes with four attachments and three combs, and works using the rechargeable battery.

Of course, let’s not forget the ladies. Sometimes, there isn’t time for a full shave, and you just need a quick, daily touch-up. The Philips Cordless Epilator will do the trick, plus, it’s a stylish additional to your bathroom. The active hairliften lifts and removes flat hairs for a smooth shave, and pivots for optimal skin contact. But the best part: the vibrating massage bar that adds a soothing element to the shave.

Finish off the bikini area with the Philips Cordless Bikini Shaver which can completely remove hair from a bikini line. It has a wet and dry feature so you can use it both in or out of the shower. And it comes with a hygienic trimming comb. Charge it up for a full hour’s of use before it needs another charge.
