MainWhenever I stay the night at my parent’s house, I sleep in their spare bedroom. Sure, there is an exceptionally comfortable bed that I look forward to sleeping in, but otherwise the room is a hodgepodge of old linens, furniture, and décor. Add to that the fact that they close the heat vents in the room when it isn’t in use, and it’s like I’m sleeping in the Arctic. Needless to say, the room could use a little TLC. With that in mind, here are five style tips that will help make any guest room, including theirs, warm and welcoming.

Linens

BeddingIn addition to a comfortable bed, cozy and warm bedding is an absolute must for any guest bedroom. You don’t want your guests sleeping under decades old linens, so instead, opt for a warm duvet and stylish duvet cover like this Mahold Rare Orchids Collection 200 Thread Count Cotton Set. I’m a big fan of duvets because once you’ve invested in a quality one, you can change up the cover from time to time to suit your style preferences. Plus, duvet covers can also be washed without damaging the duvet itself.

Pillows

PillowWhen your guests crawl into bed and under their comfy duvet and duvet cover, you want them to rest their heads on equally comfortable pillows. These ObusForme Thermagel Memory Foam Comfort Pillows are ideal for any bed for a number of reasons. First, their Thermagel layer keeps you cool; second, they are exceptionally comfortable; and third, they have a removable mesh cover that can be washed between uses so they are nice and fresh for your next guests.

Towels

TowelsRather than having your guests ask which towels they can use, set them up with a basket of fresh ones in their room. These Shoo-Foo Bamboo towels are made from organic bamboo so they are extremely soft and three times more absorbent than regular towels, and are resistant to mildew and other bacteria, making them perfect for any guest room.

HeatFireplace

To make sure your guests don’t feel like they are sleeping outdoors like I do at my parent’s place, add a freestanding electric stove fireplace like this one from Dimplex to the room. Designed to heat rooms up to 400 square feet, this space-standing stove will provide warmth and a touch of charm to your guest room. Plus, because it is electric it does not produce any harmful particulates or emissions and is 100% efficient.

Décor

CushionLast but not least, add a little style to your guest room with a few carefully picked pieces of décor, like pictures on the wall, a mirror, some flowers, and of course, decorative throw cushions like these adorable Home Sweet Home cushions from Urban Loft. I don’t know what it is about throw cushions, but they do such a great job of making a bed look made, comfortable, and of course, welcoming.

It doesn’t take much to make a guest room warm and inviting. All you need are a few key essentials, like great bedding, comfortable pillows and soft towels to make your guests feel welcome.
