Dyson V11 Outsize or Dyson V11 Absolute?

Testing the Dyson V11 Outsize stick vacuum

It is always amazing to test out a Dyson product, and after testing out the standard-sized Dyson V11 stick vacuum I had to buy one for myself. I’ve been using it for several months and I’ve loved the battery life, easy charging, and how effortlessly it cleans up my house from top to bottom.

With the Dyson V11 Outsize, you get everything that’s great about the Dyson V11, all wrapped up in a super-sized package.

Dyson V11 Outsize Review

The Dyson V11 Outsize is the stick vacuum that intelligently cleans

If you’ve been thinking about upgrading to a stick vacuum but you’re worried about whether they had the suction and power of a standard corded vacuum, the Dyson V11 Outsize cordless stick vacuum will put those fears to rest.

I vacuumed everything from my carpets to hard floors to sucking up dust from my rafters and the Dyson V11 Outsize consistently maintained steady suction and had power to spare. It picked up everything from dirt, dust, pasta, small sticks, and even a few pieces of lego. Whatever I pushed the ultra-wide cleaner head over, it picked up.

Out of the 3 cleaning modes I relied on Auto the most, but the Dyson V11 Outsize will also monitor whatever you’re cleaning and adjust the mode to take on what’s in front of it. If I switched from hard floor to my very dusty entryway carpet, the cleaner head would take a second and then automatically switch from Eco to Auto.

Boost will pick up everything in its path, and you may want to use it all the time. You can switch modes yourself by tapping the button under the LCD screen on the vacuum. You’ll just have to keep in mind that the battery life will be less in Boost mode than in Auto or Eco. I rarely switch to Eco unless I’ve been cleaning for a while and I want to glide over a slightly dusty floor.

Spare battery keeps you cleaning longer

The Dyson V11 Outsize cordless stick vacuum has 2 batteries and 2 chargers. Unlike the standard Dyson V11, you don’t have to plug the entire cordless stick vacuum into the charger. You can take one of the chargers and thread it through the docking station so you can charge and store your stick vacuum right on the wall, or just take the battery off and plug it into any outlet to have on standby. It takes 4.5 hours to fully charge a dead battery.

Between the 2 batteries, you’ll be able to clean up to 120 minutes without stopping. I don’t think I’ve ever cleaned for 120 minutes at a time, but I did a big clean to test the battery life on this vacuum. I had it run on Eco mode unless it switched to Auto mode, and I ran it for 50 minutes before it said I had 2 minutes of battery life left. I cleaned all the floors, my rafters and light fixtures, and the interior of my car.

Even when the battery is almost dead, you don’t lose suction on this stick vacuum. It keeps picking up everything in its path.

Dyson V11 Outsize larger high-torque cleaner head

Larger torque head cleans up

The Dyson V11 Outsize stick vacuum lives up to the ‘outsize’ name in every way. The 150% bigger dustbin is amazing when you’re cleaning because you don’t have to stop to empty it as often, and I am in love with the wider cleaner head. It’s so large it covers a huge section of my kitchen floor when I’m vacuuming, and that reduces the amount of time I spend cleaning.

Dyson attachments give you flexibility

There are several attachments included with the Dyson V11 Outsize stick vacuum that make it incredibly easy to clean your home. While I love the larger high-torque powerhead, the smaller mini-power head is great for cleaning cars, stairs, and your couch.

You can attach the extension hose when you’re reaching up to clean ceilings, and I used it on my 12-foot ceilings with no problem at all. The flexi-crevice tool is a standard with vacuum cleaners, and it’s a great way to reach into cracks to pick up whatever is hiding.

The docking station holds all of the attachments neatly on the wall, so you can just slide our Dyson V11 Outsize onto the station to store and charge it.

Point and shoot dust bin emptying

When you do have to empty the bin on the Dyson V11 Outsize cordless stick vacuum, it’s a really easy process. You just remove the stick, pull the lever at the bottom of bin, and it empties into your trash. Occasionally you may have to reach inside to remove a small piece of debris that’s stuck, but generally, the entire contents of the dust bin will empty into your trash bag.

To minimize any flying dust when you empty the bin I recommend holding a plastic bag around it when you open it up. That way you can empty it, tie up the bag, and no dust hits the air at all.

Dyson V11 Outsize stick vacuum cleaner

The Dyson V11 Outsize stick vacuum has a whole machine HEPA filtration system. If you live with someone who has dust allergies you know how much sneezing can happen after you vacuum with a standard vacuum. With the Dyson V11 Outsize, the air it expels is cleaner than the air it intakes. It can capture dust, dander, and other microscopic airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns. When I used the Dyson V11 Outsize around my dust-allergic husband, he never sneezed once.

When you need to clean the filter you can remove it and give it a rinse. Don’t put the filter back in the vacuum until it’s completely dry. You can also remove and rinse out the dust bin and the flexi-crevice tool.

Outsize your cleanup with the Dyson V11 Outsize stick vacuum

The Dyson V11 Outsize cordless stick vacuum offers you more of everything you need to clean your home. Compared to the Dyson V11 Absolute, which on its own is a great vacuum, it has a larger dust bin, larger cleaning head, and extra battery to make cleaning faster and more efficient.

While 60 minutes of run time is more than enough for me, that extra battery means you can clean for as long as you like. It’s a lightweight vacuum too, so you can easily lift it into the rafters if you want to grab your dust strings or take it in the car and clean up the floors.

If I hadn’t already bought the Dyson V11 stick vacuum this past spring, I would definitely be bringing home the Dyson V11 Outsize cordless stick vacuum. It’s built for large houses and long clean times.

You can find your own Dyson V11 Outsize stick vacuum on Best Buy right now.

  1. Thanks for the side-by-side comparison, makes it a lot easier to see the difference. Aside form the awesome 2nd battery, I also really like the LCD screen feature and can tell me if it needs servicing or I just need to juice up!

  2. I love how the high-torque cleaner head can sense floor types, so I don’t have to fiddle with the settings when vacuuming different areas of my home!

  3. Love that it’s cordless. Been using a big corded vacuum for years and it is super clumsy, especially when doing the stairs.

  4. This looks great! The Dyson DLS (Dynamic Load Sensor) technology that senses and intelligently adapts to different floor types would be great in our home

  5. Wow this sounds amazing!! Love that it is so powerful & so light. Although I may have to clean more because our vacuum now is so heavy, i can’t use it so hubby vacuums lol. But sounds like i may actually like cleaning with a Dyson!!!

  6. The feature of the Dyson V11 Outsize I like the most is the remaining run time which shows exactly how much time you have left on the battery

  7. The bigger dust cannister and the insane battery life – this would be a big upgrade over my 30 year old cannister vacuum!

  8. I like that this vacuum has that extra battery and that it really sucks even when the battery is running low near the end of your cleaning.

  9. I own a V10 and found it’s I need to clean my entire house. Never loose suction and the battery last for a very long time. Money well spent.

  10. After reading this, it clarifies most of my concerns, namely the battery life and power ability. The updated filter is a great feature as now I have pet hair to contend with, so this is worthy upgrade to do everything.

  11. I like the easy-view LCD screen that would show me the mode, battery life, or a maintenance issue like a clogged hose. This would be great for maintaining battery life and keeping hoses in great shape.

  12. The fact that it senses different floor types is pretty impressive as I have a mix of carpets (low and medium pile), hardwood, and ceramic floors.

  13. It’s so hard to pick a favourite feature of a vacuum that has it all! The screen is amazing to show battery life and any maintenance issues, but the boost mode is super cool and useful too! And the extra battery and super sized canister of this particular model can’t be beat.

I borrowed my friends V11 a few weeks ago when I was preparing for a move, and I’ll tell ya, I did not want to give it back! Phenomenal for everything.

  14. I’m always looking at the Dyson vacuums and love them! I just can’t afford to purchase them. I absolutely love that the V11 comes with an extra battery and it is super powerful and cordless! I love cleaning and would die to have one for sure. Cleaning is my therapy.
