Recently, THQ Nordic held their 2023 digital showcase that had updates on existing video games and announcements for new and upcoming games. We received updates about the remake of Alone in the Dark and the progress on games like Titan Quest II, Last Train Home, and Way of the Hunter. While I’d love to talk about all the updates and every new game announced, we’ll take a look at 4 games that really caught my attention that I think you’ll really enjoy.
TRINE 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy
Let’s take a look at Trine 5 first, it’s coming out at the end of this month on August 31, 2023. Taking place after Trine 4 The Nightmare Prince, Trine 5 sees the return of the magician Amadeus, thief Zoya, and the knight Pontius who are trying to bring justice and peace to the kingdom by taking on and fending off a wicked mechanical army. As with the previous entry in the series, Trine 5 is set in a 2.5D world and the developers at Frozenbyte are touting that the game will be the best looking in the series to date filled with breathtaking landscapes.
However, visuals are not the only thing new in Trine 5. The developers introduced a new combat system for the series. In addition to exploring, that game is filled with challenges and various puzzles to solve. Moreover, there is a new puzzle difficulty system that now adjusts the puzzles based on the number of people playing along with you. You can play it alone or with up to four players in local or online cooperative mode.
Furthermore, Trine 5 has special skill quests for each character that will let your characters gain experience and become legendary as they’re brought together by Trine once again! Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy is set to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One and PS4 later this month on August 31, 2023.

Wreckreation
If you enjoy arcade-style racing games, I think Wreckreation is right up your alley. In this game, you can create your own race track with pretty much no limitations. In the latest trailer shown, the tracks cross over each other, loop around endlessly and make for a pretty wild ride. The best part is, playing along with your friends in your crazy and wacky creations!
The game is developed by Three Fields Entertainment who have also worked on the Burnout and Need for Speed series of games. So, if you’ve played any of the games in those series, you’ll have a good idea what you can expect with Wreckreation. Though, the developers at Three Fields Entertainment state that Wreckreation is more than just a racing game. Using your imagination, you can build an entire world spanning 400 hundred square kilometers! And, you’ll have the chance to compare your skills with friends and the rest of the world in online leaderboards.
If you’re looking for customization options, Wreckreation looks like these will be nearly limitless! It offers the ability to customize tracks, buildings, traffic, weather, as well as customizing the vehicles in the game themselves. It gets even better! Not only are there 16 radio stations included with the game to jam out to while playing. You also will have the ability to play our own set of songs directly from Spotify. How cool is that! Wreckreation is in development for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PC, Xbox One and PS4.

South Park Snow Day!
One of my favourite new games announced during THQ Nordic’s Digital Showcase 2023 is South Park Snow Day! While not a whole lot is known about this game we do know that it is a 4 player cooperative game featuring our favourite South Park characters: Cartman, Stan, Kyle and Kenny.
From the trailer shown, the game is centered around every young child’s dream come true, a snow day! The boys are on a quest to save the world as they battle their way with epic snowball fights! South Park: Snow Day! is scheduled to release next year in 2024 on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

TMNT The Last Ronin
Last, but certainly not least, my favourite announcement from THQ Nordic’s Digital Showcase 2023 is TMNT The Last Ronin. It’s a brand new game, which is based on the comic books of the same name. The game follows the journey of a lone surviving turtle set in a futuristic looking New York. It’s still a mystery who the lone surviving turtle is: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, or Donatello. Though, whoever it is, they are on a quest for revenge of the death of their fellow turtle brothers.
The comic book series that that game is based off of came out in 2020 and consists of five issues. It was co-created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, in collaboration with Waltz, Bishop, Delgado, and the Escorza Brothers. Unfortunately, since the game is still early in development, a release date has not yet been announced. However, we do know that it will be coming to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
