Nintendo Switch is the ultimate family gaming console. It has the flexibility to take anywhere your family goes, and the versatility to go from individual play to interactive or competitive play. Also, the selection of games continues to excite us with each new release. Their newest game, Pokemon Scarlet / Pokemon Violet comes out this month and Best Buy is giving away a copy of the double pack version of the game, a Nintendo prize pack, and a Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Edition Switch OLED, for one amazing ultimate Nintendo prize.

Do you have a favourite Nintendo memory?

Families have been enjoying Nintendo gaming for decades. My favourite Nintendo memory is from when my children were young playing Mario Kart with my father-in-law Dan. The fun started with selecting a driver, “Granpa, I want to be Bowser; you got to be him last time!” which to an outsider may have seemed confrontational but the atmosphere was total fun and laughs.

Pokemon too has been thrilling adults and children since 1996. What started as a very successful video game for the Game Boy quickly evolved into anime, trading cards, manga, and tons of related toys and other merchandise. Few on this planet have not experience Pokemon in one way or another. This contest will certainly create lasting memories for someone in Canada. The prize includes a Nintendo Switch console on which they will play countless games at home, at friends’ homes, and on road trips. One of those games will be the new Pokemon Scarlet / Pokemon Violet that’s also included in this prize. And the winner will also enjoy a collection of Nintendo Pokemon merchandise. It’s pretty much a perfect Pokemon prize!

Many people will be gifting Nintendo this season

You may be wondering what are the best games to give Nintendo Switch gamers this season. You might already have an opinion about it, or you may be interested in what games other players are recommending. We sent our writers to a Nintendo holiday showcase event to get some insights and you can read about their experiences on the blog. Also, scroll through the comments under that article. For the next two weeks, Canadians will be leaving their Nintendo Switch game recommendations under that article as one of the methods of entering this contest. Here are all of the ways you can enter this contest:

How to enter

Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in three different ways:

  1. In a comment below, tell us what your favourite Nintendo memory is, what game, was involved, and why this memory stands out for you.
  2. In a comment beneath the “Nintendo Holiday Showcase” article, tell us which Nintendo Switch game sold at Best Buy (include the model number) is your gift recommendation for Canadians this season.
  3. For up to two (2) additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel (one entry per channel!) telling your friends and followers which version “Pokemon Scarlet” or “Pokemon Violet” you’ll play first if you win this Nintendo Switch prize pack; include the hashtag #BestBuyNintendoSwitchContest, so we can find your post, and include one of the pictures showing on this article.
Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.

What you can win

At the end of this contest, we will randomly select one (1) winner to receive the Nintendo Switch Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Prize pack that includes the double game and the Nintendo Switch OLED Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Edition.

This contest runs from Nov 17th until Dec 5th.

Remember you can enter in three different way as discussed above. Nintendo is best played with friends and our contests are best enjoyed with you share with family and friends to increase that chances that either you or someone close to you wins a great prize.

  1. Me, my brother and our childhood neighbour friend would meet up on the daily at my neighbours place to play Super Mario Bros, on his SNES when we were kids. Taking turns every time Mario lost a life and cheering and yelling at the screen and at each other. Fun times, life was simpler, all we needed was mario and some snacks. Our moms would force us to take a break and have something to eat.

  2. My favourite Nintendo memory was spending countless hours play 4 player Smash Brothers on the N64 with my roommates in University – it was just the fiercest competition I’ve ever participated in.

  3. I used to love playing duck hunt in the super Nintendo at my gmas house with my cousins. So much nostalgia. Times seemed So much simpler back then!! @smommers (posted on Twitter and FB)

  4. My favourite memory is playing Mario Kart 8 deluxe with my partner, and throwing red shell on her when she thought she was going to cross the finish line and win

  5. My favourite Nintendo memory is probably playing pokemon snap on the Nintendo 64 with my brothers. It was one player so we all took turns and had such a blast

  6. My “kids” now in their 30’s were Mario Kart maniacs. My daughter recently told me that my middle child was tired of being beaten by his older brother, so he coerced her into playing so he could win.

  7. My favourite memory was getting Pokemon Red as a gift from my father for the GameBoy Color. Beat the game so many times to count.

  8. We had the best time in university when one of my housemates had a N64 and we would have Mario Kart competitions. I still have a N64 and now I compete in Mario Kart 64 with my kids. Would love to upgrade (but you better believe I would still keep my classic!)

  9. Playing Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles until dawn with friends from a Nintendo rental I won in 1990, when you could rent gaming systems from video rental places.

  10. I remember buying our first NES system during our first year of marriage. We played Mario brothers into the wee hours of the morning and it was so much fun. We are both competitive but we had a blast.

  11. Playing super Mario with my parents for hours when it got colder, or the moment we finally beat that stupid massive hornet in donkey Kong l although I thought the back ground was so cool!

  12. Playing Super Mario Legend of the 7 stars . My son and I took turns as each of us was good in certain areas and when we finally beat the game it was quite late. We celebrated and I let him take the day off school. Best day ever. We talked about all our victories and failures while eating pizza.

  13. Sonic Frontiers for Switch (Model Number: 010086770278 & Web Code: 16471111) is my gift recommendation for Canadians this season!

  14. My favourite Nintendo memory is playing Super Mario at my friends place everyday after school. His place was THE place to be for a while. We are still friends to this very day.

  15. My favourite Nintendo memory is the first time I picked up a Nintendo in the early 1990s and played Duck Hunt with my older cousins. It was my first time having my actions in the real world have a cause and effect on activities taking place on the TV screen. I recall just being blown away. This was my introduction to my love for Nintendo!

  16. My favorite memory of NIntendo is playing Pokémon Ruby version on Gameboy Advance. The console and the game were both presents from my late dad. I remember asking (or forcing) my dad to buy me one because every kid on my class had it and I wanted one. Also, it was my first pokemon game I played.

  17. Getting the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as a kid for Christmas. This was a transformative experience for me, that made me love games for life. I devoured that game for the entire XMAS break. I did have to ask my parents for help in the Water Temple.

  18. My favourite memory is when the very first Nintendo came out and my older brother bought it, he saved up for so long and was so happy to get it, the Nintendo with the glove and the cool robot. To me it was so unbelievable that gaming console could be so advanced. I got to play with it and duck hunt with the gun was so much fun. Beautiful family memories that changed so much for me growing up we always had game consoles and so much fun

  19. Super Mario World on the SNES remains my favourite memory, it was such a jump in quality for the time. The colours, the sound….everything.
