Bethesda’s booth was one of my most anticipated booths to visit this year at E3 2019. Booth Doom Eternal and Wolfenstein Youngblood have been on my radar ever since both games were announced. So, I couldn’t wait to actually play the games to see if they lived up to my expectations.
Doom Eternal
Quite possibly the biggest game of Bethesda’s booth was Doom Eternal. Without a doubt it’s shaping up to be one of if not the biggest and baddest game in the series yet. The game contains a few new gameplay elements such as wall climbing and dash moves, a grappling hook, a new arm blade, and a shoulder-mounted flamethrower.
The demo began with a tutorial to get familiar with the controls and the new gameplay elements. After that it was non-stop action! The enemies were relentless and didn’t give up. I was amazed at just how fast everything moved and how powerful some of the creatures were. While I didn’t get to fully utilize all the new gameplay elements, what I did use was awesome.
The ability to climb is not something I every thought of for Doom, yet it fits in perfectly. The shoulder mounted flamethrower comes in handy when hordes of enemies are surrounding you and the grappling hook makes it easy to move around certain locations. If the demo of Doom Eternal is even a fraction as good as the final game, then I am positive fans will be happy.
Wolfenstein Youngblood
Last year we learned a little bit about Wolfenstein: Youngblood. This year, Bethesda pulled back the curtain and gave us more information on the game in addition to gameplay footage at their E3 2019 showcase. The game takes place in the 80s and you assume the rolls of BJ Blazkowicz’s twin daughters. Their Dad has gone missing in Paris and the two set out to find him.
I played a good hour or so of Youngblood and can say that the core shooting gameplay elements are very similar to those of other Wolfenstein games. What really sets it apart from other games in the series is its co-op play. Certain elements require both sisters to push switches pull levers in unison. In addition, each sister comes equipped with a power suit that augments their skills.
Gameplay and controls felt tight and I really liked how each sister plays off one another. I can’t wait to get my hands on Wolfenstein Youngblood when it launches in a little over a month on July 26, 2019.

Man, Doom and Wolfenstein take me back. Remember the days before computers had Windows, and playing these games on MS-DOS. Oh the memories. Actually, I think that the MS-DOS games are the last games I played in these series.
I think I’ll see about trying these games once they come out and get back into the series’.
