Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  3. I believe the parrot mambo is the ultimate in drones, which my grandsons would give their eye teeth for.

  4. The coolest tech gift I received when I was a kid would have to be the original gameboy when it first came out! Portable gaming was a new revelation!

  5. The coolest gift is hands down the Parrot Mambo Quadcopter Mini Drone! Would love to get my hands on this!

  6. We got the game Pong for Christmas…the adults ended up playing it and the kids were left playing board games. LOL

  9. My favourite old school tech toy was Big Trak, an awesome robotic truck that taught me how to program movement. It was fantastic!

  10. My pick for the Ultimate Tech Toy this year is the VEX IQ Robotics Construction Kit because there’s so much you can do with it and it will keep growing with my kids

  11. The coolest tech toy I had as a child was an electronic baseball game — can’t remember the exact name of – but we played with that thing for hours (and used up a whole bunch of batteries)!

  13. I think the coolest gadget I had when I was young was my Pac Man watch that had a little joystick. You couldn’t get them in Canada at the time, so my Aunt from New York got it for me. Everybody was jealous!

  15. The coolest new toy here is the Sphero SPRK+ Robotic Ball. My nephew would have loads of fun making it run around, and we both can learn some simple coding.

  18. I like the YUNNEEC TYPHOON 4K drone. I didn’t receive much for tech toys but I remember I was excited to get a train set.

  19. My favorite tech toy as a child was a robotic dinosaur, unfortunately I do not remember what it was called but I loved that thing, I had it everywhere I went.

  20. Coolest tech toy available at the best buy in 2016 is the Wowee CHiP Robotic Dog. Looks like a great toy for any child.

  26. The coolest tech toy that I received as a kid was a circuit board where you followed instructions where to connect transistors, diodes, etc to build a radio, burglar alarm etc,etc Played with it for hrs. and learned a lot.

  30. I think the Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K Quadcopter Drone with Camera & Controller would qualify me for the best aunt ever with my nephew!

  32. Trying to remember whether there were any RC toys when I was young. Might have been a couple of things connected by a cord, but more than likely it was a stuffed animal.

  34. WOW, coolest tech toy when I received when I was younger was a yo-yo that lights up in movement. We were & are poor so I didn’t have any fancy electronic toy.

  41. the coolest tech toy i have received was my iPod nano it was very first technology i have ever got and was my favorite thing as a kid.

  42. The one tech toy that sticks out in my mind that I received as a child is the Nintendo Game Cube. That was the first gaming console I ever received and I have very fond memories of playing Mario Kart with my siblings for hours on end.

  45. I believe that the coolest tech toy available right now is the BB8 Sphero App-Enabled Droid. Droids are very fun and exciting, and the revival of the Star Wars franchise is also incredibly popular right now. I think this droid in particular stands out above the rest due to it’s adaptive personality feature, making the droid more lifelike. This is a great tech toy for children and adults alike, and I know several people that would love to receive it as a Christmas gift.
