Air. It’s a pretty important thing. It surrounds us, and sustains us (it sort of sounds like The Force) and, quite frankly, without it we would all have a really hard time. So, since the air you breathe is so important, it figures that you should probably try to ensure that the stuff you’re breathing and that fills your home is as clean and pure as humanly possible. Fortunately, and thanks to the increasing popularity of Smart Home technologies, monitoring the air quality of home can be as simple as tapping an app on your smartphone. In previous instalments of my ongoing Smart Home System Series, I told you about Smart Home protocols and frameworks that unify and coordinate all your various Smart Home devices, such as Apple HomeKit, Z-Wave, Nest and Netatmo. In this edition, I’ll fill you in on the Smart Home products you can use for Air Quality Monitoring.
Netatmo Smart Weather Station
If you’re an amateur meteorologist, the Netatmo Smart Weather Station is the Smart Home gadget for you. In addition to an outdoor sensor that gives you both real-time and historic weather data so you can plan your day accordingly, the system also features an indoor Air Quality sensor for the ultimate in indoor comfort. Create a healthier home for you and your family by using the indoor module to monitor environmental conditions in your house, such as CO2 levels, humidity and temperature. You can monitor your home remotely on your smartphone, and also receive notifications when the air quality deteriorates. So, you’ll always know when it’s time to crack a window and ventilate your home. You can also expand on the system’s functionality by adding additional indoor air quality monitor modules, so one can be placed in different rooms for a better sense of well-being and air quality assurance in your living spaces.
Elgato Systems Eve Room Wireless Indoor Sensor
The Elgato Systems Eve Room Wireless Indoor Sensor allows you to receive temperature, humidity and air quality data from your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch from anywhere there is an internet connection. You can also look at graphs depicting your home’s air quality data by day, month or year so you can get valuable insights into your home’s environment. The Elgato Systems Eve Room Wireless Indoor Sensor also works with Apple’s HomeKit framework system, so you can incorporate it easily into your HomeKit-enabled Smart Home, and make it work with all your other HomeKit devices.
Dyson Pure Cool Link Tower Air Purifier with HEPA Filter
While not necessarily a Smart Home accessory, the Dyson Pure Cool Link Tower Air Purifier with HEPA Filter nonetheless lets you remotely monitor and control the quality of the air in your home with the Dyson Link app on your smartphone. The fan tower removes 99.7 per cent of allergens and unpleasant odours, works year-round, and requires no filter cleaning.
Those are just a few of the products available for Smart Home Air Quality Monitoring, and although it is an emerging technology, you can be assured more and more brands and products will be available soon to meet the growing demands of the Smart Home Market.
