Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S Review

Smart deadbolts rank in my top 3 of must-haves for a smart home. They let you open your door without keys, you can grant keycode access to friends, family, or for one-time use, and they keep a log of who comes and goes through your door. If you’ve been looking for a smart deadbolt and want one with enhanced security, great style, and a physical key option, I recommend taking a look at the Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S.

Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S is a smart deadbolt that unlocks your door from anywhere. You can open your door via a Bluetooth key, a pin code, or a physical key that fits in the hidden lock. It doesn’t use the Internet to unlock your door, so you’ll never have to worry about someone accessing your home via your Wi-Fi network. If you’re an Airbnb host, you can sync your account and issue pin codes to your guests so they can access your guest home or suite.

Installing the Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S

The Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S has a very similar installation process to other smart locks I’ve placed on my front door. All of the pieces and screws required are included in the box, and there are step by step instructions online and via a link in the app to help you install the lock if you get stuck along the way.

The major install difference between Wi-Fi-based smart locks I’ve installed and the Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S are the small sensors you need to attach to the lock itself, and on the opposite end of the door. The sensors need to face each other, and they stick to your door via sticky tape.

Overall, it was a very simple install, and I was up and running with my new deadbolt in about 15 minutes. I did have to add some sticky tape to the sensor that sits on the doorframe as it fell off quite a few times. My door is also a bit odd as it was a new install in a renovated farmhouse, and it is recessed, so there was no way for the sensors to line up. I had to remove the trim from my door frame to get the sensor to line up, or it wouldn’t lock or open.

Once installed and the sensors were near each other, the deadbolt worked exactly as described.

Using the Igloohome Deadbolt 2S

The basic premise of the Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S is that it will unlock your door for you in one of three ways: Bluetooth, Pin code, or via a physical key. I found the lock and the app very easy to use. It was also simple to set up the pin codes or issue Bluetooth access.

Smart lock with a stylish design

Igloohome deadbolt review

The Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S is one of the slimmest smart locks available, and it almost looks like a tiny tablet sitting on your door frame. I spent a lot of time painting my doors and fixing up my porch, so it’s nice to have a lock that doesn’t take away from your home’s esthetic.

Issuing Bluetooth and pin codes

All of the custom settings for the Igloohome deadbolt 2S are available in the app. Igloohome uses a proprietary technology called algoPIN™ to issue the codes and connect you via Bluetooth.

One of the best parts about the way the Igloohome 2S works is that you don’t have to be anywhere near the lock to set up the code or grant access. You can be anywhere, and all you’ll have to do is log into the app. That means you can give instant access to friends, family, or delivery people, and you get to choose what day and time the code expires.

I issued several Bluetooth codes and pin codes and sent them via text message. They all arrived instantly and opened the door without any issues.

Unlocking via the app

The Igloohome App dashboard opens to a screen where you can tap the lock to unlock it. If you are in range of your lock, you’ll be able to hear it open, but the lock icon on the app won’t change.

When using, be sure to set Auto-Lock to on in your app settings. The door will automatically lock after a set period of time. I have my door set to Auto-Lock after 10 seconds, and you can add a custom number of seconds if 10 seconds isn’t long enough.

Key-entry and jump-start

When a battery-powered lock has dead batteries, your only option to get it functioning again is to open the casing and replace the batteries. But what if you’re outside the door and your batteries suddenly die, or the lock is at your rental property and you didn’t realize the batteries were low? With the Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S, you can jump-start your lock and get access so you can switch out your batteries.

On the bottom of the lock are two silver posts. You just have to touch a 9-volt battery to the posts to ‘jump start’ the lock. It’s an interesting idea and would definitely be useful, but you’ll have to always keep a 9-volt battery on hand to use this feature.

You don’t have to jump-start the lock to gain access unless you’d like to, because the Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S has a spot you can insert a key. It’s hidden behind a small magnetic disc so you retain your sleek aesthetic, but it works great if you are someone who likes to use keys.

Integration with Airbnb

One of the most unique features of the Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S is the Airbnb integration. If you have an Airbnb property you’d like to put a smart deadbolt on, the Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S will let you issue Bluetooth keys and pin codes from wherever you are. Even better, it integrates with your Airbnb account, so you can sync your rental calendar with the lock, and it should streamline your key-issue process.

I don’t have an Airbnb account or rental property, so I wasn’t able to test this feature.

Should you choose the Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S?

If you’d like a smart lock that doesn’t require Wi-Fi and looks great on the door, the Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S is a good choice. Auto-Lock is a nice feature, so you don’t have to worry about securing your property, and I was able to issue codes to family members without any delay in access.

My only issue with this lock was the additional sensor required on the doorframe. I don’t think it takes away from the style, but I had a hard time placing it given how my door is set up. It would be nice if the sensor that sits on the door frame could be screwed down as well, because the sticky backing wasn’t enough to keep it there.

The app works well to issue codes, adjust settings, and unlock the door. I never had a delay when I was trying to gain access via the app or pin code, and I like how it logs a history of who has used the codes and when they expire.

If you’d like your own Igloohome Smart Deadbolt 2S, you’ll find this stylish smart lock at Best Buy right now.
