Google for the homeFew of us get through a day without the assistance of Google. I use Google for search (who doesn’t), for music, for timing my cooking, for watching television, and more. And I’m glad that Google is serious about the environment in the production of these devices. With Earth day happening this month, I thought it was a great time to give away some Google products that exemplify their efforts toward creating useful tech in a sustainable way. Read about these efforts, then enter for a chance to win great Google Nest products.

How many different online Google technologies do you use in a typical day? Search the web: Google search. Access the internet: Google Chrome browser. Use email: Gmail. Photo storage: Google Photos. The list goes on and on. My wife is a teacher, and, like many other teachers, she loves integrating Google Docs and Google Classroom resources into her online courses. I believe that the recent transition that many of us experienced to working from home was simplified considerably by how robust Google technologies were designed: they kept working despite the instant massive increase in online traffic on a global scale. Google makes working and playing online possible.

For many of the same reasons, people have embraced Google’s many smart home products, including Google TV, the newly announced 2nd generation Nest Hub Max, Nest
Audio, Nest Thermostat, and more. Welcome these physical devices into your home for convenience, comfort, and fun and entertainment.

Convenience and comfort: use a Nest Thermostat to control the temperature in your home from anywhere … or, schedule your house to warm up or cool down as you need to to ensure your home is always at a comfortable temperature. Say “Hey Google” to set a time, play music, control your lights and other smart home devices. I keep one in the kitchen to say, “Hey Google, set a timer for … ” whenever I am cooking. Did you know you can set multiple timers: one for the Roast Beef, one for the potatoes, one for the gravy, two for the Yorkshire puddings …?

Fun and Entertainment: music is always on in my home, and a Google Nest Audio allows me to easily control what is playing and in what room. I used the Google Home app to create a “Music Group” so I can have the same music play in every room at once. We’ve also used “Hey Google” to play games around the kitchen table after dinner. And, of course, I often say, “Hey Google, play … on Netflix” and voila, like magic, the show starts playing. Or I might say, “Hey Google, pause Netflix” so I can make popcorn without missing any of the action.

At the same time as you enjoy the many ways Google products benefit your life, know that they also contribute to a greener lifestyle. In an obvious way, the Nest Thermostat will reduce the energy use in your home, saving your money and reducing your carbon footprint at the same time. In a less obvious though possibly longer lasting way, Google products are made responsibly incorporating recycled components where possible, lessening their impact on the environment.   2. I have two google home minis and I would love to have any of the hubs with google assistant as an addition!

  3. Presently I do not have any google devices, but would like the t-stat as it would help in energy savings resulting in lower costs to my household and also benefit the environment by more controlled useage resulting in less pollutant to the environment.

  7. I have the mini google so I would love the “Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) Smart Display with Google Assistant – Sand”. Love all that it does and the screen on it to see the weather for the day and more. Would be amazing to have. I would move my mini google to my bedroom or the kitchen. I love it as well.
