Plantronics BackBeat 350 Headphones Contest

Last year I ran the Vancouver Sun Run for the first time and listening to music was key to my success. Looking back, a pair of wireless Plantronics BackBeat FIT 350 headphones would have made the experience even better. Do you need workout motivation yourself? Enter this contest and you could win your way to a pair of Plantronics BackBeat FIT 350 wireless headphones.

Running towards self-improvement

Who here hates running? I certainly used to. For the first 27 years of my life, running was a task I only did under threat of a poor grade in gym class. Historically, runs were a time for me to reflect on how much my legs were hurting and wonder when the elusive runner’s high would kick in. But one day, in a moment of ambitious self-improvement, I decided I would enter the Vancouver Sun Run. Though I had managed to survive a 5 day, 75 km hiking trip, I was nonetheless absolutely daunted by the idea of running 10 km. I admit that is a little illogical, but the human mind is unpredictable.

So I began my training. My main motivators were: 1) an overwhelming fear of failure (an approach I wouldn’t really recommend); 2) a desire to improve my health; and 3) music. Yes, I discovered that the right soundtrack made all the difference. When I ran with music, suddenly the script in my head was no longer “I hate running, I hate running, I hate running,” but was instead a medley of musical delights. So, complete the Sun Run I did! (And with a reasonable time to boot).

What I didn’t realize is that my cheap wired headphones were holding me back. If only I had a pair of Plantronics BackBeat FIT 350 headphones! Alas, I did not, but let’s not dwell on the past and let’s look to the future.

I have since become rather fond of running and even go on jogs of my own volition. I do find that my wired headphones are a hassle; it’s a pain to try and change songs on my phone as I am jogging, especially since I carry my phone in an arm band. And my over-the-ear wireless headphones are fine for weight lifting, but they are too bulky and move around too much for high energy activities.

Plantronics BackBeat FIT 350 headphones, in contrast, connect via Bluetooth to up to two devices at once and feature a wire that goes behind your neck. One concern I have with in-ear headphones is comfort and fit, as I don’t want to have to fiddle with earbuds while I’m already trying to stay focused on my run. Fortunately, blog writer Jacob McCourt found that by swapping out the included ear tips he was able to find a secure fit. See for yourself below, or read Jacob McCourt’s review.

There are truly wireless headphones on the market, but I know there is no way that I wouldn’t misplace one of the earbuds in a purse or pocket, so I prefer the idea of keeping my earbuds connected to one another. The cord is made from a material that minimizes friction and has clip to attach it to your shirt, which to me sounds like a major upgrade from the tangle of cords I’m used to.

The BackBeat FIT 350s also have inline controls. With the small built-in controller, you can change volume, skip or move back through songs, pause playback, and answer calls. The 33-foot range means you’re able to listen to your music without having to be glued to your phone. I find this to be one of the best aspects of wireless headphones; with fewer distractions, you can stay present in the moment and channel your energy into the activity at hand. With your phone safely stowed away, there’s less risk for your motivation to wane as you start scrolling through social media sites, because now it’s just you, your workout, and the music.
