Top 5 games to look forward to this fall
So far, 2018 has been a glorious year in gaming. There has been a nonstop flow of quality games that, as games, have absolutely knocked our socks off. With games such as God of War, Monster Hunter World, Shadow of the Colossus, Far Cry 5, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, and Dragon Ball FighterZ—gamers have been in paradise.
With a tons of great exclusives, and some of the hottest third-party games yet to come, 2018 is certainly shaping up to be one of if not the most memorable years in gaming in quite a long time. Lets take a look to the games coming out this fall. Here are the top 5 games to look forward to this fall.
Spider-Man
Platform: PlayStation 4
Genre: Action-adventure
Release date: September 7, 2018
Ever since Spider-Man was announced in 2016 and shown at E3 2017, it has been near the top of my most wanted list. Now it is one of my top 5 games coming this fall. It’s no secret, Insomniac Games makes some of the best games.
Recently they announced that Spider-Man will be web-swinging his way exclusively onto the PlayStation 4 come Friday, September 7, 2018. This game takes Peter Parker and Spider-Man in and new direction with an older and more mature Peter Parker. The new game features everything you love about Spider-Man such as web-slinging, wall-crawling and acrobatic abilities.
As Spider-Man now dawns a new Advanced Suit, there are new never-before-seen gameplay elements that I am excited to experience. I can hardly wait to see how traversing the Big Apple with parkour and the new combat and blockbuster action play out. As Peter Parker struggles to balance his career, hectic personal life, and the people of New York—Spider-Man is shaping up to be quite possibly one of the best Spider-Man games ever.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Platform(s): PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Genre: Action-adventure
Release date: September 14, 2018
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the sequel to 2015’s excellent Rise of the Tomb Raider. While we wont know any big news about Lara’s latest adventure until April 27th, what we do know is the story will be epic. The game’s tagline says that it will be a “climatic finale” for Lara’s origin story.
This alone has me wondering where the series will go from here and what is in store for Lara in this dark and emotional origin journey. As you can see in the video below, there are plenty of mountains locations and what looks like Mayan pyramids that Lara will visit. Whatever Square Enix has in store for us, I’m sure the third and final game in the rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy won’t disappoint.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Platform(s): PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Genre: Platforming
Release date: September 21, 2018
Last year Activision gave us the superb Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy remaster and now it’s time for Spyro to make his return. Much like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro Reignited Trilogy is a fully remastered collection of the three original Spyro games that started it all. As a fan of Spyro since the PSX days, I am glad to see that Activision has included modern day mechanics, full analog stick support and smooth camera handling.
With more than 100 levels, Spyro Reignited Trilogy brings back everything that made gamers fall in love with Spyro 20 years ago and will attract those are just being introduced to Spyro for the first time.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
Platform(s): PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Genre: First person shooter
Release date: October 12, 2018
The yearly Call of Duty franchise returns with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Developer Treyarch is back at the helm of the Black Ops series and plans to reveal a ton of info on the game come May 17. As you can see from the video below, Activision and Treyarch have opted to forgo the traditional roman numeral route and instead using IIII.
While the video is a series of gameplay shots from the previous Black Ops games, the game’s tagline has me intrigued—Forget what you know. Does this mean the series will take a whole new direction? At this point in time, nobody knows. It seems as if Treyarch are always pushing the limits to new heights in the Black Ops series. I fully expect them to do the same with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Platform(s): PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Genre: Action-adventure
Release date: October 26, 2018
What is quite possibly one of the most requested sequels of all time is almost here, Red Dead Redemption 2. Originally scheduled for a late 2017 release and then delayed until the first half of 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 is now slated for a late October release.
Set before the first Red Dead Redemption, you’ll explore the Wild West as Arthur Morgan, an outlaw. However, this time you are rougher and tougher compared to your predecessor. You’ll partner with the Van der Linde gang and make your mark on the American frontier like no other.
Known for making epic open-world games with deep immersive worlds, it looks as if Rockstar Games is set to bring the wild West to life unlike any other game. Oh and did I mention it will have an online multiplayer mode? As it looks now, Red Dead Redemption 2 could very well be a strong contender for game of the year.
There you have it! The top 5 games to look forward to this fall. As you can see, 2018 will probably go down as one of the great years in gaming. What a ton more games announced for release this year but no release dates, being a gamer only gets better by the day.
Let me know in the comments section below, which of the top 5 games you are looking forward to most this fall.
