BenQ Mobiuz EX2710Q review

Over the past month or so, I have had a lot of BenQ boxes through the house as I’ve worked my way through a series of the company’s MOBIUZ gaming monitors. I’m a fan of BenQ—I’ve been using a BenQ 4K entertainment series monitor (here’s the 32-inch version) for my desktop setup for the past few years. It’s a great monitor for work and offers a brilliant picture for streaming video. However, when it comes to gaming, BenQ’s MOBIUZ series offer an even better experience with advanced features like super-fast refresh rates and AMD FreeSync Premium support. This review is for the BenQ MOBIUZ EX2710Q 165Hz QHD gaming monitor.

Out of the series of MOBIUZ monitors I’ve reviewed, the EX2710Q is probably the one that is going to have the most wide stream appeal.

BenQ Mobiuz EX2710Q reviewEasy to set up, wide flexibility in connectivity options (including USB hub)

Like the other monitors in the MOBIUZ series, the EX2710Q is easy to set up. One screw secures the base to the stand, which then snaps securely into a spring-loaded connector on the back. No tools are required.

Once assembled, you have a monitor with DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.0 inputs. I would have liked to see USB-C, but the most common video outputs for gaming PCs and consoles are covered off. There is also a USB type B input. Use the included cable to plug into a USB port on your PC and you get two USB 3.0 Type A ports on the monitor. So it does function as a USB hub, although when you count the port you plugged into on your computer, you only gain one extra.

BenQ Mobiuz EX2710Q reviewExtremely flexible stand + antiglare screen

Another strength of the BenQ MOBIUZ series has been its stands. They are solid, stylish, and offer impressive flexibility. The display’s 178-degree viewing angle and effective antiglare treatment means it’s pretty easy to get a great view, but that stand means you can tweak the positioning to be perfect. It offers 20-degrees of tilt adjustment, 30% of swivel, and 10 cm of height adjustment.

If you are short of desk space, you can even wall mount the EX2710Q using an optional, standard VESA 100 wall mount.

27-inch QHD panel offers the perfect combination of size and resolution

From my perspective, 27-inches is just about the ideal size for a desktop monitor. At that size, 4K resolution is nice, but QHD is still very sharp. I don’t really feel like I’m giving anything up. And that resolution (also known as 1440p) is a sweet spot for many video games—it allows for maximum effects and a high frame rate that may be pushing it at 4K resolution.

The Xbox Series S that I do most of my gaming on is optimized for this resolution and games looked great with the combination of the console and the EX2710Q.

Ultra-fast 165Hz refresh rate, HDRi, and more gaming-friendly features

The MOBIUZ EX2710Q’s gaming cred includes a super-fast 165Hz refresh rate, 1ms MRPT, and 2ms GtG response times, along with AMD FreeSync Premium support.

This means an image that is always razer-sharp, with smooth motion, and no screen tearing.

The gaming features don’t stop there. BenQ’s HDRi feature uses an ambient light sensor to optimize the video content in real time. It is very effective and can be switched between different modes for gaming and cinema. BenQ also includes a huge array of onscreen menu optimizations including a light tuner, modes for different game genres, and scenario mapping.

The monitor is also equipped with advanced technology to protect your eyes during extended gaming sessions, earning it multiple TUV certifications.

It’s worth spiking out this monitor’s audio capabilities. Many monitors these days don’t even bother to include speakers. If you prefer to use headphones, you can—there’s a 3.5mm audio jack around back.

However, if you’d rather listen without having to wear headphones, you’re in for a treat. The EX2710Q is equipped with BenQ’s premium treVolo audio. There are a pair of 2W drivers, along with a rear-firing 5W woofer for 2.1 channel audio. The monitor’s DSP customizes the audio to deliver the best results whether you’re gaming, watching a movie, or playing music. It is a serious step up from the sound most gaming monitors can put out.

A great looking, high performance gaming monitor at the right price point

BenQ Mobiuz EX2710Q review

At this stage, I’ve reviewed four different BenQ MOBIUZ gaming monitors. The MOBIUZ EX2710Q strikes me as the one that is going to have the widest appeal.

The awesome MOBIUZ EX3210U was the gaming monitor for the ultimate experience. It rocked a huge, 32-inch display at 4K resolution. It featured HDMI 2.1 support, included an integrated USB hub, and was equipped with BenQ’s 2.1 channel treVolo audio. It even included RGB lighting effects. For those who want a gaming monitor but have a limited budget, the MOBIUZ EX2510S and EX2710S are great options. They still offer advanced gaming technology like a 165Hz refresh rate and 2ms GtG times, but these monitors keep costs down with a 1080p panel.

The MOBIUZ EX2710Q sits nicely in the middle. At 27-inches it’s big, but not so large that finding desk space to set it up is going to be a problem. QHD resolution is an upgrade over 1080p and many gamers find 1440p to be the sweet spot for their systems. It offers some of the larger monitor’s features like 2.1 channel audio and a USB hub. In short, the MOBIUZ EX2710Q is an upgrade pick over the EX2710S, but one that is still affordable.

Whichever of these BenQ MOBIUZ gaming monitors you pick, I suspect you’ll be pretty happy.
