Pulse 3D

Alongside the launch of the PlayStation 5, Sony released a wide variety of accessories to help you get more out of your new console. Recently I took a look at the DualSense Wireless Controller Charging Station, Media Remote Control and HD Camera. You can read about my thoughts and impressions here.

Today, we’ll look at the PULSE 3D Wireless Gaming Headset for PS5. After spending almost a month using the PULSE 3D Wireless Gaming Headset, I ‘ll share with you some information on them and my thoughts and impressions. First, let’s take a look at the features of this headset and the technology behind them.

PULSE 3D Wireless Gaming Headset features

The PlayStation 5 includes a custom built engine for 3D audio called the Tempest Engine. It allows the PS5 to provide amazing 3D audio that gamers can immerse themselves in. The PULSE 3D Wireless Gaming Headset has been specifically designed and tuned to deliver the best 3D audio possible using the PS5‘s Tempest 3D audio engine.

Here are the main features of the headset:

  • Dual hidden noise-cancelling microphones microphones
  • Built-in rechargeable battery for up to 12 hours of play
  • 3.5mm jack for wired gameplay
  • Refined earpads for comfortable gaming
  • USB wireless adaptor for wireless functionality
  • Easy-access controls to quickly adjust audio and chat settings

Everything you need to get up and running comes in the box. You get a USB cable for charging and audio cable for the 3.5mm jack for wired use.

Lightweight and comfortable design

The PULSE 3D Wireless Gaming Headset visually compliments the look of the PS5. The headset features the same round edges and sleek design of the PlayStation 5 along with sharing the same colour of the console itself.

It’s clear to see that a lot of work was done in the design of the headset to not only make it visually appealing but comfortable to wear as well. The earpads are soft and fit around my ears perfectly. The headset takes a one size fits all approach, it’s lightweight, very sturdy and the headband strap perfectly on my head. In fact, the PULSE 3D Wireless Gaming Headset fit so perfectly that I couldn’t even feel I was wearing it during gameplay.

Easy-access controls

Another feature of the headset that I really liked are the easy-access controls. They are located around the left earpad and include: power button, mute, volume, monitor and chat/game. The monitor button allows you to turn off the ability to hear your own voice while chatting. And, the chat/game button allows you to make either the chat or game audio louder than the other.

It took me little to no time to memorize these buttons and to be able to press them quickly and easily while playing. The 3.5mm input for wired use and USB Type-C connector for charging are both located next to the power button near the front of the headset.

Specifically tuned for 3D audio

Since using the headset, I’ve played Astro’s Playroom, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Bugsnax, Sackboy A Big Adventure, Godfall, Overcooked! All You Can Eat and Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. Each game featured rich audio that makes wearing the PULSE 3D headset my preferred way to play games. In each of the games I was able to pinpoint the location of someone talking to me or making a noise. Even if I could not visually see them on the screen it made it easier.

Furthermore, in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, I could hear the directions my enemies were coming at me as I patiently waited for them to round the corner. Better yet, I could also hear when enemies were trying to sneak up on me from behind. In Spider-Man Miles Morales, I could hear the screens and approximate location of civilians on the street getting robbed, which made it easier for me to get to them quickly.

The PULSE 3D Wireless Gaming Headset offers great performance and features at a fantastic price

Overall, I am very impressed with the PULSE 3D Wireless Gaming Headset for PS5. Not only do they look and fit good, they sound fantastic! They are lightweight and have a sturdy construction that makes them incredibly durable. I was able to easily get the 12 hours of battery life out of them. And, the wireless range is somewhere around 10 metres.

I like the flexibility of being able to use the headset wirelessly on PS5 and also wired on Xbox, Stadia and Switch. Now, I have one headset for all my gaming needs. My only nitpick about the PULSE 3D Wireless Gaming Headset is the USB wireless adaptor.

I would have loved it if the headset used the same wireless technology as the DualSense wireless controller. Seeing that there are only 3 USB type-A ports on PS5 they get quickly used up. By the time you add an external USB hard drive, HD Camera, and charge your controller and headset there are no more ports left.
