Nintendo Switch is the ultimate family gaming console. It has the flexibility to take anywhere your family goes, and the versatility to go from individual play to interactive or competitive play. Also, the selection of games continues to excite us with each new release. Their newest game, Pokemon Scarlet / Pokemon Violet comes out this month and Best Buy is giving away a copy of the double pack version of the game, a Nintendo prize pack, and a Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Edition Switch OLED, for one amazing ultimate Nintendo prize.

Do you have a favourite Nintendo memory?

Families have been enjoying Nintendo gaming for decades. My favourite Nintendo memory is from when my children were young playing Mario Kart with my father-in-law Dan. The fun started with selecting a driver, “Granpa, I want to be Bowser; you got to be him last time!” which to an outsider may have seemed confrontational but the atmosphere was total fun and laughs.

Pokemon too has been thrilling adults and children since 1996. What started as a very successful video game for the Game Boy quickly evolved into anime, trading cards, manga, and tons of related toys and other merchandise. Few on this planet have not experience Pokemon in one way or another. This contest will certainly create lasting memories for someone in Canada. The prize includes a Nintendo Switch console on which they will play countless games at home, at friends’ homes, and on road trips. One of those games will be the new Pokemon Scarlet / Pokemon Violet that’s also included in this prize. And the winner will also enjoy a collection of Nintendo Pokemon merchandise. It’s pretty much a perfect Pokemon prize!

Many people will be gifting Nintendo this season

You may be wondering what are the best games to give Nintendo Switch gamers this season. You might already have an opinion about it, or you may be interested in what games other players are recommending. We sent our writers to a Nintendo holiday showcase event to get some insights and you can read about their experiences on the blog. Also, scroll through the comments under that article. For the next two weeks, Canadians will be leaving their Nintendo Switch game recommendations under that article as one of the methods of entering this contest. Here are all of the ways you can enter this contest:

How to enter

Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in three different ways:

  1. In a comment below, tell us what your favourite Nintendo memory is, what game, was involved, and why this memory stands out for you.
  2. In a comment beneath the “Nintendo Holiday Showcase” article, tell us which Nintendo Switch game sold at Best Buy (include the model number) is your gift recommendation for Canadians this season.
  3. For up to two (2) additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel (one entry per channel!) telling your friends and followers which version “Pokemon Scarlet” or “Pokemon Violet” you’ll play first if you win this Nintendo Switch prize pack; include the hashtag #BestBuyNintendoSwitchContest, so we can find your post, and include one of the pictures showing on this article.
Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.

What you can win

At the end of this contest, we will randomly select one (1) winner to receive the Nintendo Switch Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Prize pack that includes the double game and the Nintendo Switch OLED Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Edition.

This contest runs from Nov 17th until Dec 5th.

Remember you can enter in three different way as discussed above. Nintendo is best played with friends and our contests are best enjoyed with you share with family and friends to increase that chances that either you or someone close to you wins a great prize.

  5. It was playing donkey kong with my younger brother. We would sit in our parent’s bedroom because it had a tv and we would play during summer vacation. I’m not sure why that memory sticks out – maybe some good bonding time?

  6. My favourite Nintendo memory would be when my brothers and I received an original GameBoy one Christmas. So many hours playing and fighting over Super Mario and Tetris.

  7. I recommend Mario Super Party (Model Number: HCCPADFJA ). It’s a great game for couples, company, parties and the mini games are a lot of fun for those not ready for the rules of a board game.

  8. My favorite Nintendo moment was when my grandparents got me a Super Nintendo when my parents wouldn’t. I then got Killer Instinct shortly after.

  10. My favourite Nintendo memory was Christmas morning and seeing the classic NES under the tree! I played Super Mario and Duck Hunt back to back all through Christmas break!

  11. I remember playing a lot of original Super Mario with my brother growing up. When my neighbour showed us how to get into one of the secret levels, that was a pivotal moment. Secrets were so much more interesting then just finishing the game and rescuing the princess. Also remember laughing with my cousin while playing Chip and Dale rescue rangers on rainy days. It was a two player game and you could pick up the other character and carry them with you. I recall the legs running the air striking us as funny.

  12. My favorite Nintendo memory is playing the ORIGINAL Super Mario with my cousins growing up – we played as a group and was the only video game we all played. Video games were not as popular back then, so it was a really unique experience for us to enjoy

  13. I remember playing Pokemon Gold in my cousin’s Gameboy Advance. It was really fun. It was stand out to me because this is my first Nintendo game and the fun of pouring many hours just to catch all Pokemon and evolve my Pokemon!

  14. I just turned 41 and I still remember the day my brothers and I pulled our allowance funds together to purchase the Original Nintendo. I was obsessed with Super Mario, loved the special code to get extra lives (AABBAABBABA… something like that). Thanks for the chance.

  15. I used to play Mario Kart with friends when I was eight. We would all bring our DS lites and sit all together and play for hours. This holiday season I recommend Zelda Breath of The Wild or Animal Crossing.

  16. My favorite Nintendo memory was Christmas 1998, I was 7.

My parents absolutely slayed Christmas that year by suspiring my brother and I with the new N64 and the Ocarina of Time.

It felt like all my buds at that point had gotten their hands on the console already, and when it was finally my turn to unwrap our console, it surpassed any expectation that I had leading up to that moment.

  17. My favorite memory is when my youngest son got his first Nintendo we set up on a very small TV back then, (over 30 years ago) and he played Super Mario with his older brother. Now it is his own son, who is 10, who is hooked on video games on Xbox and Nintendo Switch and he is a pro.

  18. Thanks for all of the recommendations. I think I will assign each recommendation a number. Then have someone pull out a lucky number from the hat. Easy Peasy. Happy Holidays everyone!

  21. Mario Party is a lot of fun for the whole family… even the dog jumps up with us when we’re playing and get excited lol

  22. it was Christmas many moons ago, it was the Nintendo that had the duck hunt game and my son was so excited when he opened it and I was the best mom EVER!! I was the best mom EVER!! my sons excitement over this gift was what makes this so memorable….best mom EVER!!

  23. My favourite Nintendo moment was the first time we played Mario Kart 8 with our son. He was so excited and it has created a great family tradition to participate in game time once a week,

  24. I still remember unboxing thr original Nintendo, complete with the duck hunt game and red gun. This game and system was unlike anything else at the time.

  25. I recommend Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection (Model #27105). Has all the best, classic TMNT games that used to torture us in as kids in the 90s. Pass that frustration along to your own kids today!

  26. When I was 8 yo on boxing day, I searched all over Toronto to find a GB color. I had a bunch of Christmas money and I really wanted the newest mobile console. When I finally found it in Duffrin mall, I was so happy. And I even got the atomic purple one. Thats the one that sticks the most, but I have an endless trove of Nintendo memories. I guess it sticks out the most because it was the first time I played pokemon as well. Got a copy of Pokemon Red was instantly hooked.

  27. My favourite memory is one year for my sisters birthday my parents rented the original Nintendo system. I was so excited because we never had one. I played Mario all day and thought it was the best day ever!

  28. As a child when super Mario Bros. 3 came out, it was as if a new creation evolved in video game history. This game not only got me hooked playing video games half my life but to this day now that I am 45 years old, still is one of the best games ever created by Nintendo.

  29. My favourite memory was when I was a kid we got the original Nintendo. We also got blades of steel. We didn’t have a nice tv to play but we had a black and white tv. Probably 15 inches. I would pretend to be one of my brothers players and frustrate them. So much fun.

  30. I’ll always remember playing Super Smash Bros Brawl with my brothers. We would set tournaments up every week, playing until our parents would kick us off the game. While it was highly competitive, we always found ways to laugh and have a little fun.

This stands out to me because of the bond it built between my brothers and I, being something for us to look fondly on as we grow older.

  31. Best memory would be playing Mario Kart with the neighbors. Weekends would be spent running to each other’s house to play Mario Kart, hang out and laugh.

  32. My favorite Nintendo memory will have to be when I was a kid and I finally beat my older brother at Mario Cart. He never took it easy on me, so when I got better and beat him for the 1st time, I will always remember the excitement of that moment.

  33. My favourite Nintendo memory is playing Mario Kart with my kids when they were young. It is memorable because it was something they could beat me at from a very young age. They loved it and we laughed so much because I was always last.
