Today I want to encourage everyone to show the kids in your life some Valentine’s Day love this year. The last 12 months have been highly unusual and extremely difficult for pretty much everyone, so it’s important to take every opportunity to enjoy the special days that come along whenever we’re given the chance. And while Valentine’s Day is usually seen as a romantic holiday, this year is the perfect opportunity to make it something different. And with the big day fast approaching, in this blog I’ll make a few fun suggestions of how to show your own kids, as well as your nieces, nephews, friends’ kids, and pretty much any kids you know, just a little bit of Valentine’s Day love this year. And it won’t be all Toys and Games! Read on for all the suggestions.

Quality time

The first gift of Valentine’s Day love I want to suggest costs absolutely nothing. It’s simply the gift of quality time. You can spend quality time with the kids in your life in any number of ways—and it’s always time well spent. For instance, for the kids in your own home, why not plan to spend a couple of hours cooking a special (favourite) meal with them? Maybe it’s a pizza? Maybe it’s hamburgers? Or maybe it’s something else? Either way, the kids will certainly enjoy cooking with you and the attention that comes along with helping to cook a meal. A plan like this costs absolutely nothing (outside of food preparation costs), yet it provides unmatched value when it comes to building a strong familial bond.

Another possibility that often works well at this time of year is getting outside to build a cool snow fort with them. This may not work for several parts of Canada right now, but if you’ve got the snow in your yard to work with, building a fort is a super fun way to spend some quality time together. Other possibilities include going skating on a safely frozen pond or simply hanging out at home and watching Movies & TV Shows with some freshly popped popcorn. Each of these suggestions costs virtually nothing but will mean the world to your kids, so why not make a plan to enjoy this year’s Valentine’s Day in a way that celebrates family togetherness?

Board Games

While there are many easy ways to show your kids some Valentine’s Day love this year, for some of my suggestions you may need a little bit of help. For instance, one way in which Best Buy can help you out is through their large selection of Board Games.

Show your kids some Valentine's Day love

When it comes to spending quality time together, board games are a great way to go. In fact, Best Buy makes things even easier by hosting a specially cultivated page that’s specifically for Family Board Games. With everything from Monopoly to Trivial Pursuit (and many others besides), Best Buy has something for every type of family and for kids of all ages to enjoy.

And enjoy them you will! Board games provide the opportunity for communication and cooperation, as well as for some good old-fashioned family competitiveness. That sure sounds like quality time to me!

LEGO

If board games aren’t your family’s thing, then perhaps LEGO & Building Blocks toys are? If so, then something like the LEGO City: Downtown Fire Brigade is a great way for a family to spend a fun and cooperative afternoon together this Valentine’s Day.

Valentine's Day

With 943 pieces to keep you busy, the whole family is sure to have a blast completing this realistic LEGO City set. Included in the box is everything you need to build a first-rate fire department. There’s a cool ladder truck, a fire rescue helicopter with cockpit that opens up and rotors that really spin, a three-storey building, a free-standing crane with rotating arm and working hook winch, and 7 LEGO mini-figure characters to populate the scene and make it all work. These figures include fire fighters, construction workers, and a helicopter pilot.

Also included in the set are a number of small accessories that add fun details to the scene. For instance, there are tools (like a jackhammer and smoke gear for the fire fighters), food, warning lights, and even fire elements for the mini-figures to “put out”. With all of this to keep both kids and adults busily engaged, everyone is sure to enjoy some great Valentine’s Day quality time together.

Drones

The final thing I’m going to suggest today comes from the category of Drones. Flying drones is a great way for families to spend some quality time together, and with the right toy drone from Best Buy, the entire family can get in on the fun.

While some drones can be expensive and complex, Toy Drones are anything but. They typically can’t fly very far (preventing flyaways and other incidents) and are light enough to not do any damage if they do fly into something. This makes them ideal for kids, beginning pilots, and pretty much anyone.

Valentine's Day Gifts

One such example is the Haktoys HAK902-IV Mini RC 7.5″ Rechargeable Quadcopter Drone. This drone, which is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, has a number of features that make it fun and easy to fly. Its strong frame can withstand bumps and crashes, while its 2.4GHz 4 channel transmitter gives you more control over what the drone does, including 3D flips and rolls that will make any new pilot seem like an experienced pro. Kids will have a blast both watching and taking a turn at flying this tiny quadcopter. And though it might be something of a wild ride, they’re sure to love every minute of it!

One thing to note about a drone such as this is that flight times are typically quite short. This one states 7 minutes of flying time on a 60 minute charge of its battery, so do keep that in mind when considering any toy drone—they won’t get you all the way through a Valentine’s Day afternoon. What they will do, however, is get you outside having fun as a family, which is a very nice way to spend even just a few precious minutes before heading back inside to watch a movie together.

As you can see, there are many wonderful ways to spend this Valentine’s Day together with your kids in a way that shows them some much needed love and attention. Whether its giving them some chocolate, planning to do something fun together, opting for a Toy or Board Game, or just sitting down to watch a movie as a family, it’s good to show the kids in your life that you love them every chance you get! Happy Valentine’s Day!
