Spring is already well and truly upon us, and before you know it we’ll be packing the beach towels and SPF 50 for those summer trips to the beach (or lake). And if you want to capture of all the fun of those magical days by the water, you might want to invest in a waterproof camera. There’s actually quite a selection to choose from, so today I thought I’d give you my Top 3 Waterproof Cameras!
First up is the Polaroid iSO85, a 16MP camera that is super affordable, so you won’t have to worry about handing it over to the kids. In fact even if it does get dropped, it’s shockproof to a height of two metres! It also floats, which is pretty handy. It’s got a nice big LCD screen on the back and a smaller LCD screen on the front – selfie-tastic! It’s a great travelling companion too because it takes AAA batteries, so you don’t need to worry about packing plug adapters. It shoots video and has image stabilization, so you’re videos will look smoother, straight out of the camera.
If you’re looking for something a little more feature-filled, you might want to check out the Fujifilm Finepix XP80. It’s waterproof to a depth of 15 meters, and it comes with a nice 5x optical zoom, so you don’t have to leave the comfort of your sun-lounger to get the shot! It captures Full HD 1080i video, and it has a wind filter, which is handy because there’s almost always a breeze at the beach. I love the fact that the XP80 is Wifi enabled, which means you can instantly transfer images to your smart device, and let your friends know how much fun they’re missing.
Whenever there’s water involved, there’s always the opportunity for great action shots, and the XP80 can capture a blistering 10 frames per second at full resolution. It also has a Burst mode button which will allow you to capture 60 frames per second, which sounds like overkill to me – most of those frames will look exactly the same!
If you’re serious about your photography and you want a waterproof camera to match your ambitions, there really is only one choice – the Nikon AW1. This is a fully loaded interchangeable lens camera that you can take with you anywhere. With a maximum shutter speed of 1/16000 of a second, and maximum frame rate of 15 frames per second, you won’t miss a thing. It also has tracking autofocus, which means it can refocus while it’s shooting in burst mode. It captures Full HD 1080i video, but does not have image stabilisation, so you’ll have to figure out a way to compensate for that. One trick is to put the strap around your neck and push the camera away from your body till the strap is taut – it actually works surprisingly well!
One of the really cool features of the AW1 is the Simplified User Interface, which lets you operate the camera without taking off your ski or diving gloves.

It is the best one I have seen, my wife, my dad, my in laws and a few other friends have one in that series.
They are great, almost indestructible and completely waterproof, we take ours swimming and do underwater shots
Thanks for that Drax86! Like yours, all of the models I mentioned today are completely waterproof and shockproof. They also operate at temperatures below minus 10 Celcius (-14F).
