Korg Kaossilator 2The Kaossilator 2 is the latest version of their Kaossilator line that has been decreasing in size with each iteration. The Kaossilator 2 is a portable sound generator that uses a touchpad for sound creation. Sliding horizontally over the touchpad will change the pitch over a range of octaves while vertical movement affects aspects of the tone such as filter cutoff, feedback, or modulation depth.

The Kaossilator 2 has 150 built in sounds with two loop recording and unlimited overdubs. It features a built in mic. External devices can be used through an additional Line In input. Loops and recordings can be saved using a microSD/SDHC card. A built in arpegiator allows adjustment of gate time and swing settings of the built in sounds.

I had a hard time putting it down. It’s so tiny, but has so many fun and wild things that you can do with it.

I'm a film / TV composer based in Vancouver BC. Music has always been part of my life, but my first career was in the technology industry as a consultant and project manager. I helped to build and open the Experience Music Project – a rock and roll museum in Seattle. I hold a Bachelor of Music from the University of Western Ontario and a Master of Business Administration degree from McMaster University. I also hold a diploma in Audio Engineering from the University of Washington and I’m a graduate of Hummie Mann’s acclaimed Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program.
