linen-closet-bedding-sets.jpgIf you’re like me, you probably don’t have a lot of closet space, so the stuff you bring home and put in those closets has to be functional and, more than anything, absolutely needed before you buy it. This is never truer than when it comes to linens – towels, bed sheets, and blankets can take up a ton of space in your closet, so you have to whittle it down to what you need.

Take sheets for example – yes, I’d love to have 10 sets of sheets in varying colours and thread counts, but space wise, it’s not realistic. That’s why when it comes to bedding, most people really only need 3 sets of sheets per bed in your house.

You’ll always have one set of sheets to be on your bed at any given time. That leaves one set of sheets as a back up, and those back up sheets are usually in the laundry. I also recommend one set of flannel sheets for the winter, and if you have the space in your linen closet, you might want to have two sets of flannel sheets so you always have a back up for those.

Need some recommendations for your three bedding sets? Here are my picks:

One set of Egyptian Cotton SheetsEgyptian-cotton-bedding-set.jpg

No matter what colour your bedroom, you can’t go wrong with a set of crisp white sheets like the Maholi Duncan Egyptian Cotton Bedding Set. They are perfect for summer because they’re silky soft and breathable, and they’re made from 620 thread count Egyptian cotton with a sateen finish. I’ve found that the more I wash my Egyptian cotton sheets, the softer they get.

For a back up set of sheets or as your main set of sheets, choosing a colour to match your room or complement your existing décor is a great idea. I wrote about combed cotton recently, and one of the points I made is that when it comes to sheets, thread count isn’t the be all and end all. Combed cotton sheets like the Maholi Maxwell Collection Combed Egyptian cotton sheets are so soft, extremely durable, and won’t pill, which is a huge plus. They’re also available in seven different colours, so there’s something for everyone to choose from.

Oh flannel, how I love you. You keep me cozy when I go to bed with ice cold toes and you keep out the winter chill when the temps dip down below freezing. Everyone should have a set of flannel sheets just for winter, and they keep you especially cozy when you add a fleece throw to your bed.

And speaking of fleece throws

I’ve always been a blanket girl, and I can’t seem to stop myself from picking up cozy blankets whenever I see one. But just this past winter I discovered the joys of the heated fleece throw, and this is one addition to any bedding set I have to recommend. I love the winter plaid of the Sunbeam Fleece Heated Throw and it has three temperature settings to keep your bed warm and toasty when it’s chilly outside.

I really believe that crawling into a bed made with cozy cotton sheets is one of the great joys of life, and having a few sets of great bedding sets around makes life easy when it comes to laundry and keeping your bed neat and tidy.
