Dyson is a surprising industry leader in hair tools. The brand entered the industry late, in 2016, with their Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer. The Supersonic featured a uniquely high price tag, but its ability to quickly dry and style thick hair earned the brand a devoted following. Since then, Dyson has kept consumers on the edge of their seats with new innovations, like this Dyson Corrale Cordless Straightener.
Dyson’s Supersonic Hair Dryer and their more recent Dyson Air Wrap Styler were interesting products to watch launch, because they both offered something completely unique. With the Supersonic, consumers were able to experience a bladeless hair dryer for the first time. With the Air Wrap, the same was true for a styling wand: its conical curling attachments curled hair using a blow dryer, with absolutely zero bristles, motors, or clamps.
So the question here is twofold. One, is the Dyson Corrale a hair straightener worth purchasing? And two … Does it offer something completely unique, as other Dyson products have?
What’s in the Box of the Dyson Corrale Cordless Straightener?
In the box of the Dyson Corrale Cordless Straightener, you’ll find everything you need to get started—and then some. Dyson’s hair tools are pricey, but the brand is careful to make sure that you won’t incur any extra costs for cords, heat-resistant mats, or chargers.
Along with the Corrale Cordless Straightener, which is a hefty 1.25 lbs, you’ll also find a two-piece charging stand that comes apart for easy transportation, a magnetic charging cord that attaches to either the charging stand or the iron itself (a very classy move, if you ask me), and a velvety-soft black and navy travel case that doubles as a heat-resistant mat.
With its charging cord and stand, the Corrale offers more flexible storage options than Dyson’s hair dryer or Airwrap Styler. There’s no bulky case involved here, and the travel wrap really is a pleasure to use. Dyson has also been careful to make this iron travel-safe, with a safety plug. The plug, which consists of four prongs, needs to be plugged in before the iron will turn on, and can be unplugged before you pack your Corrale away. There’s even a tag in the travel wrap to remind you to get your straightener airplane-ready, and a velvet sachet to tuck the plug into so it can’t scratch the finish of your straightener.
What makes the Dyson Corrale unique?
The Dyson Corrale comes with a few different selling features. Some of them are completely unique to the Corrale; others, you’ll find variations of in different brands as well. These features include:
- Flexing plates that gather your hair
- Continuous temperature regulation
- OLED screen for easy viewing of the temperature, battery level, and charging status
- Four-cell lithium-ion battery: holds 30 minutes of charge and recharges in 70 minutes
- Device can be used cordless or plugged in, while charging
- 10-minute auto shut-off
- Unique, easy-to-use, built-in closure lock
- Flight-ready battery disconnection and universal voltage capabilities for international travel
Dyson’s touch-controls, smooth plates, and battery screen aren’t completely unique—but things like its hair-gathering flex-plates are, as are its secure closure and travel feature. It’s uniquely sleek and heavy, with a 10-minute auto shut-off that I would love to see in more hot tools. (They’re dangerous!!! Name one other 400-degree object in your house that people routinely forget to turn off. I dare you.) Similarly, the Corrale features better temperature regulation than I’ve ever seen in a hot tool before: not only does it heat up to 210 degrees Celsius in about 30 seconds, but it also indicates when the iron is too hot to use, reading out the real-time temperature of its manganese copper plates on a brightly-lit OELD screen.
In terms of cordless use, I think this product’s main attraction is its ability to be used both cordlessly and plugged in. It’s easy to forget to charge your products, and Dyson provides not only a beautiful charging stand, but also the ability to plug in for uninterrupted use.
Does it really gather the hair?
Surprisingly … Yes! The Dyson Corrale really does gather your hair in a smooth, neat section.
That isn’t to say there’s no tugging at all, because there is (even on my fine, straight hair.) But when I take a section of my hair and run it through both the Corrale and my regular flat iron, there’s substantially less tugging with the Coralle. Even when I switch up the order that I’m testing them or change the pressure that I’m using to squeeze the plates together, there’s less tugging every time with the Coralle.
My hair just seems to run through the styler a little better, with more of the stray strands working their way to the centre of the iron. It doesn’t work as effectively as Dyson shows it to in their demos, but it does work; I think it’s partially because of their soft-touch heated plates, and partially because of the styler’s V-shaped end. Your stray hairs don’t just drop off the end, as with any other hot tool. Instead, they slide back down into the “valley,” where they can be straightened, waved, or curled.
My experience with the Dyson Flat Iron
I’m of two minds about this flat iron from Dyson. On one hand, it’s an incredibly beautiful product. It’s sleek and weighty, and you can really feel how high-quality it is. I love its secure closure and velvety-soft travel mat, and its charging functions feel truly ingenious. It’s gentle on my hair, heating up quickly and applying even pressure so that you can get long-lasting results at lower temperatures than you’re used to.
The Corrale is also beautifully sculpted, with an entire curved back that helps set shapes into your hair even as it cools, coming out of the straightener. It straightens, curls, and waves your hair, and is designed perfectly for creating gentle movement at the ends of your hair. It makes it easy to create a sleek, refined hairstyle that’s reminiscent of coming out of a blowout at the salon, but with a little less volume. (A tip from cosmetology school: you’ll always get more volume, and especially more root height, out of a round brush and a blow dryer than you will out of a hot iron!)
This iron feels otherworldly, and its bi-directional temperature regulation is a fantastic feature that I rarely see in hot tools. The entire process of using it is just really luxurious, from the moment that you unlace the satiny ribbons of its travel roll to when you slide its locking mechanism open.
The downsides of the Dyson Corrale
All of that being said, the Dyson Corrale Cordless Straightener is phenomenally heavy. It’s 567 g (1.25 lbs), while most of my other high-end flat irons are closer to 240 g (0.58 lbs). It’s heavy enough that my arms get tired before I can finish doing my hair, and I’m a wizard when it comes to flat iron curls. It usually takes 3-4 minutes for me to curl my hair, or 5-6 minutes if I’m using a lower temperature or I’m really dawdling.
It’s also surprisingly limiting, for a product that’s so conscious of its own versatility. Sure, there are three ways that you can charge this iron… But there are also only three temperature settings, which is really odd for a tool like this. 165, 185, and 210 degrees Celsius translate to 329, 365, and 410 degrees Fahrenheit—right in the upper middle range of what most stylists recommend that you style your hair at. For healthy hair, 375˚F (190˚C) is a good bet for regular styling, but my own fine, fragile hair starts to break if I style it over 300˚F (150˚C), and I like to keep it at 250˚F (120˚C) if I’m just smoothing and shaping.
Dyson claims that its iron styles with “less heat” and “50% less breakage,” and I believe that it’s probably true for most users. Still, I’d be willing to bet that those of us currently using lower temperatures will see more breakage with the Dyson Corrale. My current flat iron starts at 140˚F, which is a mere 60˚C—a far cry from Dyson’s 165˚C base temperature.
This takes us nicely into my next question: who is the Corrale made for, after all? Because it certainly isn’t me, as much as I wish this sleekly-curved clamp was my styling soulmate.
Who is the Corrale made for?
One of the toughest things to do when reviewing a product is to figure out that product’s target audience. If the product is perfect for you, that’s easy to figure out: you’re the audience! But if there’s anything that gives you pause, you have to do a little double-checking first. If there’s something about the product you don’t like, is it possible that you just don’t like it because it was designed with a different consumer in mind?
I think that’s exactly what’s happening for the Dyson Corrale. It’s a wonderful product, but it just wasn’t wonderful for me. It isn’t wonderful if your body is chronically exhausted, or if you have super fragile hair. It’s unique, but not quite as unique as the brand’s other hair tools.
However, it’s amazing if you have a thick head of hair. If you loved the Dyson hair dryer, you’re likely to love this straightener, too. It would be perfect if you travel a lot, or if you’re constantly forgetting to plug things in or turn things off. (My hair may be a little too fragile and my arms a little too weak for this flat iron, but WOW, do I ever forget to turn my flat irons off!)
The Dyson Corrale is heavy, but it’s made to compensate for all of your forgetfulness. In a lot of ways, it’s the perfect luxury product: it isn’t made for everyone. Instead, it’s made to do a lot for a select few. It takes care of the small details for you, so you can focus on getting your busy life just right.

Great review, Rae! I love the idea of the charging cord connecting to either the straightener or the stand! Very smart move!
I have a Dyson stick vacuum and love it’s convenience. I would love to try the Dyson Supersonic Hair dryer and the Corrale Straightener. I have curly hair and would love to be able to style it differently than letting it air dry all of the time.
I own a Dyson corded vacuum but would love to try the hair dryer for my long hair.
I own a Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer. I would like to try the Dyson Absolute Cordless Stick Vacuum because I love the design of Dyson products; it would also make cleaning up such a breeze :)!

My daughter has thick long hair and I really think this would be great for her.
I have never owned a Dyson product but if I could choose h
Just one it would be a fan.
I love my 2 Dyson Vacuums and blade-less fan. We’ve heard great things about the hair dryer so we want to pair that with the new Corale straightener
I have a Dyson vacuum and would like to try Dyson Corrale.
Thank you for the review! I don’t think I would mind that its heavy, you can get an arm workout at the same time…I have a Dyson vaccum which I love so I would love to try this as well and add it to my growing Dyson collection 🙂
I’ve never tried anything from Dyson before but I want to try the hair dryer – I’ve heard amazing reviews and love the fact that it can cut my drying and styling time down to almost nothing! Less time styling + less damage = a win for my mane!
My girlfriend would love one of these!
I love how honest this review is, Rae! You aren’t afraid to dig deep into who this is for, even if it’s not you. I’d love to try the hair dryer personally… I’ve heard good things! I’ll have to go read your review on that 🙂
I have a Dyson vaccum. I love these products. I think the Dyson Corrale Straighener as I think it would suit my hair which is thick and long. I would love to try this!
I have 2 Dyson vacuums and we like them because they are powerful and versatile. I would love to win a Dyson Corrale as I have extremely thick hair and it can take me around an hour to blowdry and straighten my hair. The Corrale should cut down on styling time and give me more free time!
I don’t own any Dyson products but it would be great to have a Dyson Corrale Cordless Straightener to style my hair when it becomes unmanageable.
I currently have a Dyson vacuum and it’s a lifechanger and I’m ready to have a product that can up my hair game! Everyday I tie it up in a messy bun bc I never have the time to heat up a curling iron and put waves in my lifeless hair to make it look good down. Chasing a two year old around doesn’t help me achieve hair goals hah! This would be a great device for me as your review and video shows just how quickly and effortlessly it works! thanks for the chance to win!
I would love to gift the Dyson Corrale Cordless Straightener to my mom, because she has been growing her hair out as of late and would benefit much from this product!
This straightener would be a God send for my long thick hair!
The Dyson Corrale would be great for my wife. The Dyson Vacuums are always in our EYE!
I have extremely unruly thick frizzy hair and nothing helps. I would love this and would appreciate the extra arm workout. (Thanks for your honest opinion in the blog)
I do not own a dyson but am exciting to hopefully be purchasing a dyson hairdryer soon!! The reviews for Dyson products are incredible. I’d love to do one of my own and change my hair game with Dyson! As a busy mom of a toddler boy I need tools to help me style quickly. Thanks for the opportunity!
I don’t however own a dyson stuff as it is pricey for me. And I heard all about the good things that it does and just dreaming of having it would be so amazing. And I would love to own the Dyson Corrale wireless straightener as I have a wavy long hair and I bet it will be a great thing to have just like any other dyson product!
I own a Dyson Cordless Stick Vacuum V10 which I love but would love to get the Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer for myself since I need an upgraded hair dryer but I would also love to get the Dyson Corrale Straightener for my daughter who has thick long hair.
I do not own any Dyson products, but I have seen so many reviews on this it’s definitely on my Christmas list. If there is any product I would want to try from the Dyson family it is hands down the Dyson Corrale Cordless Straightener! I have has the same hair straightener for 13 years it’s time for a much needed upgrade!
I own 2 Dyson, a stick vac and a corded vacuum and would love to own the Dyson Corrale Cordless Straightener. I don’t have gorgeous waves or fine curls I get a one ugly hair bump that occurs just under my ears and lots of frizz, so I wear my hair up. I would love to wear it down and this could be brought with me to keep it tamed if it decides to act up
I have Dyson V6 vaccum cleaner. But I would love to try Dyson straightener
I have owned a Dyson vacuum long back however this is the time to own a Dyson hair straightener as I have been managing my natural curls for more than 3 decades and it’s time I give it a much needed change as my hair is screaming for change and I can get that Silky & smooth hair only by using the magic wand by Dyson. I think my hair will be very happy and will thank me for the personal experience!!
I love my Air Wrap but I miss doing flat iron curls. Nothing really compares to flat iron curls but it’s also impossible to do with regular ceramic plates + super fine hair. The flex plates sound genius!
I have a dyson cordless vacuum but not of their hair products. This looks so pretty though
I’ve never owned a dyson product – but I have always had it on the top of my list, when I get the opportunity to get one!
In addition, I’ve always been following the brand and love the innovation and have always had tons of their beauty products in my wish list as well. I really look forward to being able to try such an awesome and raved about product. <3 thanks for the opportunity!
I own a Dyson vacuum but would love to try the Supersonic because my hair has grown so much while I’ve been social distancing and I don’t want to ruin it!
I have a Dustin cordless vac and would love to try their hair dryer to cut down on drying time, this straightener sound amazing too! I love the focus they have on the engineering of their products 🙂
I own a Dyson cordless stick and love it. I would love the Dyson Corrale Cordless Straightener because unlike other straightener stray hairs slide back down into the center of the iron where they can be straightened, waved, or curled.
I have a Dyson vacuum and heater/fan and they’re both great! I was excited to read your honest opinion of the Corrale! I have fine thin hair and wonder if it would not be as super wow for me but I’d still love to try one day!
I love your honest review! I may have somewhat fragile hair but the majority of my household, namely 4 daughters, were blessed with thick lockes. I think they would love this flat iron. It may be a wee bit heavy for me, thanks for pointing that out!
We have a Dyson vacuum and because of its power and durability, I have my eye on the blow dryer, the fan and now the Corrale! 🙂
i love my dyson vacuum but i would love to try this straightener because my hair could use an upgrade that doesn’t damage
This would be perfect for my long thick hair, plus I’m constantly looking to make sure I’ve unplugged my current straightener.
I have the styler. I would like to try the hair dryer to style my flat hair.
I have the cordless hand vacuum. I would like the hot and cold fan for my cold living room
I have the dyson hair dryer, I’d like to try the task light for my dark bedroom.
I don’t own any Dyson products but the hair dryer has been on my wish list for years. This flat iron sounds fabulous!
I love my Dyson cordless vacuum and would love to try this product! I have tried the blowdryer and I loved it. What an innovative company. Thanks for your insight
I have never owned a Dyson product but one day i hope to get a Dyson Fan! But this hair straightener is something my wife would LOVE! She is a hair dresser and wants the Dyson Blow Dryer but this would be the next best thing for her.
I own two Dyson vacuums (cordless and corded) but would love to try the Corrale because I have two daughters who keep stealing my straightener and mama deserves an upgrade
It’s designed so beautifully but the weight would be too much for me to deal with!
Great honest review. It’s interesting to read about the different heating settings as those settings will not work for everyone’s hair. I like the point you made about that 375 for heat is what most hairdressers use. I have more hair on the back of my head but otherwise my hair is fine everywhere else. I love the Dyson brand for vacuums, we used our air miles years ago to get one for me. I hesitate to purchase this specific tool but I am super interested in the Dyson blow dryer, as I’ve heard only rave reviews.
Hi Harjit! That’s so smart — Dyson products are long-lasting but so expensive; it’s awesome that you got such a great Air Miles deal on one.
If your hair takes a long time to dry, I think you’d really enjoy the Dyson Supersonic blow dryer! It’s not suited for my hair type, but many of my beauty blogging & hair styling friends love it for how quickly and smoothly it dries hair. (Plus it’s absolutely gorgeous!)
Thank for sharing, very useful information.
Hello Rae, I have super fine hair – do you feel it would be kind to my hair? Is the heat adjustment reliable? I had someone demo a flat iron on my hair once & it burned off!! I would appreciate your opinion since dyson hair tools are incredibly expensive I wouldn’t want to invest if it’s not right. Thanks
Hi Elinor! The Dyson Corrale doesn’t adjust low enough for super fine hair, in my opinion, but its temperature controls are VERY reliable. (It’s one of the few flat irons that indicates when it’s hotter than your setting, which it recalibrates for within seconds.)
If you usually use hot tools around the middle of their heat settings, this should be the same or more gentle on your hair. If you usually use them on the low end, I’d recommend that you skip the Corrale and consider the brand’s AirStyler instead, which produces long-lasting styles with very little heat!
