The 12 Days of Christmas gift idea list is now upon us, and for the first day, there’s one of the best Chromebooks available — the Pixelbook Go from Google.

Chromebooks are popular alternatives to Windows PCs and Macs because they come in various sizes and feel lighter in how they operate. That’s exactly what the Pixelbook Go aims to deliver every time you open it. It stands out in a good field of Chromebooks already on the market, but here’s why it made the Christmas list.

Why the Pixelbook Go?

I cover the details of what makes the Pixelbook Go so intriguing in the full review and video. In it, I noted that you didn’t have to upgrade to this from the previous Pixelbook or Pixel Slate, but if you were on the lookout for a new Chromebook, this was worth a serious look.

It looks and feels like a laptop, has a vibrant 13.3-inch Full HD touchscreen and some of the best battery life you’ll find for a device its size. The matte black finish is nice and neutral, fitting in anywhere. A rippled design on the bottom adds extra grip when carrying it with you.

It has two USB-C ports and a headphone jack, with improved Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for wireless connectivity. The front-facing 1080p HD camera is perfect for video calls to keep in touch with loved ones, and you can do it using popular apps, like Skype, Google Duo or Viber.

The Pixelbook Go runs on an either an Intel 8th-gen Core m3 or Core i5 processor with 8GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. By Chromebook standards, this is a nice collection of specs, and should hold up well with Google updating Chrome OS regularly.

A favourite of mine was the device’s keyboard. It’s one of the best I’ve typed on. And that’s saying something, given how many laptops I’ve tested throughout my career. Google calls it a “Hush” keyboard, and it features excellent keys that feel soft to the touch with quieter presses every time. You have to feel it to see it for yourself.

Using the Pixelbook Go

The Pixelbook Go features full access to Google Assistant, the popular voice platform. When you talk to it and launch apps, control smart home devices and keep track of your daily schedule. You can press a dedicated key, or simply say “Hey, Google” to spring it into action.

This Chromebook can handle the media content you want to watch with aplomb. The Google Play Store offers all the latest apps to catch up on a favourite TV show or movie. Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Crave and YouTube are all available, plus many others too numerous to list. Live sports are also on tap. NHL, DAZN, NBA League Pass and Sportsnet Now, among others, are ready to download.

If you need to get things done, some good productivity apps are easy to find. Google’s suite of apps include Docs, Gmail, Keep, Sheets, and many others. Microsoft Office is ready to go, as are Adobe’s suite of Android apps. If you want to listen to streaming music while getting some work done, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and many others are also widely available.

One of the best Chromebooks

Getting a Chromebook should be about a combination of enjoying content and creating content. Those are the best reasons to buy a device like the latest Pixelbook Go, which is capable of doing both. As our 12 Days of Christmas series kicks off, this is one of the best laptops you can get your hands on in 2019.

The Pixelbook Go is available now in two configurations: the Core m3 and Core i5.

  1. I recently just went back to school and in need of a new laptop. The one I currently have is a very, very, very old HP laptop which is too big and too heavy to carry around(it doesn’t even work without it being plugged in) I have 2 more semesters to complete before I receive my certificate. This would also help in my future endeavour of becoming a buyer.

    • Hi Lori,

This article is about the Pixelbook Go. It does not discuss a contest. Best Buy does run contests occasionally on the blog; however, most articles on the blog are educational in nature to help people learn about products that are available at Best Buy.

      Best regards, Martin

    • Considering that most of what a general user of a PC does every day can be web-based, the Chromebook is a perfect solution to people not wanting to carry heavy laptops anymore.

My girlfriend actually uses her Chromebook to stream work from her desktop PC. With a fast internet connection to connect the Chromebook with our home PC, it’s basically like having a fully fledged powerful PC in the palm of your hands. We love it.
