Additionally, most of the major manufacturers revealed new TV sets that are likely to arrive at Best Buy later this year. Samsung at CES 2021

At this year’s consumer electronics show Samsung debuted several new TVs including a Neo QLED TV, Micro LED TV and new even thinner version of the popular Frame TV.

In a media release, Samsung says, the company’s “2021 Neo QLED 8K features a new new Infinity One Design—a nearly bezel-less screen providing an even more immersive viewing experience in a sleek design and form factor.”

The new 2021 version will keep the set’s unique art mode display form factor while now being about half as thin as previous models. Plus, new magnetic bezel options have been added, including new colours and now a beveled or “modern” looks.

Samsung also won a CES Innovation award for its new Premiere ultra-short throw (UST) projector. The newly announced Samsung LSP9T is said to be the world’s first HDR10+ certified, ultra-short throw (UST) projector. Unlike traditional projectors which are set up at a distance or mounted to the ceiling, the Premiere can be positioned millimeters from the wall—and project a huge 130” image.

In announcing the award, CES noted, “with triple laser technology, 4K picture quality, and vivid brightness, The Premiere is said to deliver an immersive viewing experience. It has built-in, multi-channel speakers for cinema-quality sound with Acoustic Beam technology.”

Sony at CES 2021

Sony also announced new TV sets with new technology. Calling its new 4K and 8K TVs “the world’s first cognitive intelligence televisions,” Sony’s media materials say the cognitive intelligence televisions include a processor that “cross-analyses multiple picture elements combined with focal points, recreating human perspective.”

The new TVs will be under the Sony Bravia banner and will include a new BRAVIA XR televisions include MASTER Series Z9J 8K LED, MASTER Series A90J and A80J OLED, and X95J and X90J 4K LED.

LG at CES 2021

For its part, LG Electronics announced what it’s calling a “leap forward” in TV tech. LG will be introducing its first ever 4K and 8K “QNED Mini LED” TVs, which will become its top-tier, premium screen options.

LG’s Mini LED is a back lighting technology that uses almost 30,000 tiny LED lights behind the TV screen to create more accurate lighting and light-dark representation. With these new QNED TVs, expect excellent video quality with improved contrast and darker blacks, a wide colour gamut and incredible colour accuracy and vibrancy; you should notice more hyper-real images that seem to almost float free from the screen.

LG also announced its Evo TV, a super-powered OLED TV for 2021 with an all-new panel that’s been re-engineered to improve light display and to make them brighter than ever before—though not in the blinding or glaring sense.

LG also made over its WebOS smart TV platform. The key innovation seems to be that its unobtrusive and simple bladed bottom-row interface has been replaced with a full screen smart hub that already some are saying is too much.

LG’s new for 2021 Magic Remote will also have new shortcut buttons for certain streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney Plus—at least in the US. We’ll have to see if the Canadian versions end up the same.

Hopefully we can review this change here on the blog and let you know first hand how it comes across.

Hisense at CES 2021

The big reveal from Hisense was a rollable TV. We’ve seen these before at CES from other manufacturers; the TV screen is made of a thin plastic and it unfurls itself from a narrow box before standing up tall all on its own. When you’re done with it it slowly rolls away and out of sight. This model is called the Hisense Self-Rising Screen Laser TV.

Hisense also announced a new lineup of laser projection TVs at CES that the company says should have better color performance than any other screen technology and boasts the technology offers 50% better colour .

TCL at CES 2021

Television manufacturer TCL shared news and details about its home theatre lineup at CES 2021. On both the television and audio fronts, TCL says it’s expanding its product portfolio to include next generation mini-LED TVs, and a wireless soundbar.

The 3rd generation TCL mini-LED TV, is called the OD Zero mini-LED TV, which doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but it does stand out. TCL is also bringing out out a lineup of 85-inch TVs, where three different models will make up what TCL dubs its “XL Collection”.

TCL also released details about its TCL Alto sound bar line will launch in 2021 and will have voice assistant capabilities and a new wireless connectivity with TCL Roku TVs.

This new wireless option nixes the need for a cable when hooking up the TV. The power cord will be the only one needed; no HDMI, no optical audio.

  1. I truly would like to buy a 55″ television , but I am definitely committed to waiting ✋for the Micro LED Televisions Panels to choose from because I genuinely have learned that the OLED Televisions Panels are very weak in the Area of the Organic Compound Material which do Decay over a period of time. It is truly not sturdy enough for the increased Luminance Contrast Brightness up 1000 nits or more!❤❤

  2. I would love the frame tv, Samsung is know for their excellent quality televisions and are the leader in the industry. To own one of their frame TVs could complete any rooms aesthetics.

Love love love to own one!

  3. I am most excited to see the new TV’s from Sony and TCL. I have a 2020 model TCL series 5 and a Sony 800g from 2019 and would love to get the next level up of the Sony 900h or when the 900J comes out! Can’t wait!

  4. I’m out of date with my tv. It’s a 32 inch insignia. It’s now to the point that Cable channels aren’t compatible with my model ha ha it it’s antique compared to the latest models for 2021. Samsung sure has several unique tv models including the new thinner Frame Tv.
