xmas2016-drones

Remote controlled planes and helicopters have been around for many years but they never caused the frenzy that we have seen with drones. They have invaded our psyche and become a part of our culture. This is the year that drones have emerged as a cultural phenomenon. You can quickly become the envy of your friends if you win one of the 3 incredible drones that Best Buy is awarding as prizes in this contest.

I am currently reading Dickens’ Bleak House, an amazing story that includes many references to 19th century culture. For example, on page 344 Dickens includes in his descriptions of the Smallweed family, a family that is basically born adult, presumably skipping childhood and childish things, numerous childish games and toys that were popular in his day:

“… her twin brother couldn’t wind up a top for his life. He knows no more of Jack the Giant Killer or of Sinbad the Sailor than he knows of the people in the stars. He could as soon play at leap-frog or at cricket as change into a cricket or a frog himself.”

I am sure that if Dickens was writing in 2016 he would include references to flying a drone. They are here to stay as more and more people are using them for more and more things.  Here are the incredible drones we are offering as prizes in this contest and some of their key features:

  1. The obstacle avoidance sensing system feature is the coolest in my opinion. Especially when shooting scenic landscape shots while tracking a person in the frame

  2. The DJI Phantom 4 4K obstacle avoidance sensing system would be awesome (at least until my flying gets better!) while recording 4k!

  3. Flying a drone with an obstacle avoidance system would be great on its own but being able to take 4K photos and videos as well is just amazing.

  4. Hallo, my fine fellow!”
    “Hallo!”, returned the boy.
“Do you know the Poulterer’s, in the next street but one, at the corner?”, Scrooge inquired.
“I should hope I did”, replied the lad.
“An intelligent boy!”, said Scrooge. “A remarkable boy! Do you know whether they’ve sold the prize quadcopter that was hanging up there?—Not the little prize drone: the big white one featuring an obstacle avoidance system that sense objects to avoid collisions?”
“What, the one as big as me?”, returned the boy.
“What a delightful boy!” said Scrooge. “It’s a pleasure to talk to him. Yes, my buck!”
“It’s hanging there now”, replied the boy.
“Is it?”, said Scrooge. “Go and buy it.”
    “Walk–er!”, exclaimed the boy.
“No, no”, said Scrooge, “I am in earnest. Go and buy it, and tell ’em to bring it here, that I may give them the direction where to take it. Come back with the man, and I’ll give you a dollar. Come back with him in less than five minutes and I’ll give you half–a–toonie!”
The boy was off like a 4K shot in sports mode He must have had a steady hand at a trigger, rivaled only by ActiveTracks self flying features, who could have got a shot off half so fast.
“I’ll send it to Bob Cratchit’s!”, whispered Scrooge, rubbing his hands, and splitting with a laugh. “He shan’t know who sends it. It’s twice the size of Tiny Tim’s. Joe Miller never made such a joke as sending it to Bob’s will be!”
The hand in which he wrote the address was not a steady one, but write it he did, somehow, and went downstairs to open the street door, ready for the coming of the poulterer’s man; with it’s integrated gimbal the Phantom 4 would easily prove the steadier of the two. As he stood there, waiting his arrival, the knocker caught his eye.
“I shall love it, as long as I live!”, cried Scrooge, patting it with his hand. “I scarcely ever looked at it before. What an honest expression it has in its face – a face that only 120 fps could do justice! It’s a wonderful knocker!—Here’s the DJI Phantom 4 quadcopter drone now! Ready to fly! Hallo! Whoop! How are you! Merry Christmas!”

  5. The favourite feature? this is hard because there are so many good features! The top features are on the DJI Phantom 4 4K: obstacle avoidance sensing system, built in Wi-Fi plus it has a good camera But honestly all of these drones have good features!

  6. I’ve been researching drones for a few weeks now. All have different features that stand out, but the one thing everyone likes the most from what I read, is flying time. Most people have to travel somewhere to fly a drone, so the longer they can keep it in the air, the better.

  7. DJI MAVIC = will be my travel company (if i win) when I travel the Philippines this January, and ohhh that 4K video is just perfect!

  8. I would win wife of the year award if I got my husband the DJI Phantom 4 4. The best of many worlds with video and wifi along with object avoidance. Its a win win win!!

  9. I love the DJI MAVIC Foldable Quadcopter Drone with 4K UHD Camera & Controller: Foldable, lightweight, travels up to 65km/h, easy to fly front obstacle avoidance, 4K video and photos!

  10. Lots of great features but I like the obstacle avoidance sensing system as learning will be happening with our family!

  11. My favorite feature is the longer flight time of 25 minutes. More time to take photos and videos up from above!
