Yu-mn is the first participant of our new Mentorship & Accelerator Program (shortened to MAP) to launch to market! What is Best Buy Canada’s Mentorship & Accelerator Program?

Finding the support and resources needed to grow a successful business can be challenging. That’s why Best Buy Canada created its Mentorship & Accelerator Program; it can break some of those barriers and help underrepresented tech entrepreneurs achieve their goals. Through this program, Best Buy connects Black and Indigenous innovators with mentorship opportunities, business support, and a national platform to help take their businesses to the next level.

Meet Harriet Obinyan, founder of Yu-mn

Harriet Obinyan, the founder of Yu-mn, is the first participant of the Mentorship & Accelerator Program to launch their product through Best Buy Canada. A former flight attendant used to exercising on the go, Harriet created Yu-mn because she wanted to make fitness more accessible. When she successfully applied for MAP in January 2022, two years after launching Yu-mn, Harriet started working directly with mentors across various departments to help her establish the next steps to grow her business.

When asking her how MAP impacted her and Yu-mn, Harriet told us:

“My whole business has been accelerated because I have experts supporting me at each step. My products are being sold at Best Buy stores and online at BestBuy.ca, which I never thought would have been possible. Participating in the Mentorship & Accelerator Program is the best thing that could have happened to my business, and I am so grateful!”.

How to enter

Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in three different ways.

  1. In a comment below, tell us the name of someone on your list who would love to receive a Yu-mn fitness product for the holidays (first name only) and which Yu-mn product you would like to add to your own home gym.  
  2. For up to two (2) additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel (one entry per channel!) sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering a Best Buy blog contest for a chance to win a bundle of Yu-mn fitness equipment; include the hashtag #BestBuyMAPContest, so we can find your post, and include one of the pictures showing on this article. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
