The gift giving season is upon us, and if you have a gamer on your list (or are treating yourself!), here are the top games releasing in December you may want to consider. It might be a smaller month, but there are some great titles many gamers have been waiting for. Let’s take a look!

Steep

Release Date: December 2, 2016
Genre: Sports
Platform(s): PlayStation 4, Xbox One
ESRB Rating: T (Teen, 13+)

Ubisoft’s grand finale at their E3 2016 press conference was a brand new extreme sports title, Steep, and amazingly enough, it’s already arrived. Following the recent closed beta weekend, and open beta all last week, I got a peek at what this massive open world sports title has to offer. From taking on alpine skiing challenges, to performing high-speed snowboarding stunts, to take death-defying plunges in a wingsuit, or taking in the serene, breathtaking view while paragliding, Steep is one adrenaline-fueled ride.

Super Mario Maker 3DS

Release Date: December 2, 2016

The original Super Mario Maker is one of my favourite Wii U games of all time, and now that full game experience is coming to Nintendo 3DS. Super Mario Maker lets you build your very own Super Mario levels from scratch using intuitive touch screen controls with the Nintendo 3DS stylus. Levels can be created using a variety of themes, ranging from classic 8-bit Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. U. Have fun building levels with many of your favourite characters and objects from the Super Mario world, ranging from Goombas, to Coins, to Super Mushrooms, and more.

The Nintendo 3DS version contain 100 built-in courses designed by Nintendo, and you’ll also be able to download select Super Mario Maker courses already created for the Wii U version.

The Last Guardian

It. Has. Arrived. After nearly a decade in development, The Last Guardian is coming to PS4 in December. Directed by Fumito Ueda and developed by members of the legendary Team Ico, The Last Guardian will transport you to a majestic fantasy world filled with mythical beasts and stunning environments. The story centres on a young boy who befriends an enormous griffin-like creature, and the two must learn to trust one another in order to survive a perilous journey.

Dead Rising 4

Release Date: December 6, 2016
Genre: Action-adventure
Platform(s): Xbox One
ESRB Rating: M (Mature, 17+)

Photographer Frank West is back in action in Dead Rising 4 for Xbox One. Return the town that started it all—Willamette, Colorado—and try to survive a dangerous new breed of zombie that has taken over the mall and streets. There are hundreds of deadly, and often time hilarious weapons you can craft to take down the zombie threats, including a candy can crossbow, firework launcher, and West’s signature barbed-wire baseball bat. For extra power, jump into the all-new Exo Suit and pummel zombies to a pulp with your mechanized fists, or mow down entire swaths by punching cars. Let the slay ride begin!

Werewolves Within

Experience a brand new type of party game with Werewolves Within for PlayStation VR. Join your friends around the campfire as each of you asks questions to determine who is in the group are werewolves pretending to be villagers.
