how-to-make-a-freak-shake

Last week on Shelly’s Friday Favourites I spent some time discussing homemade soups. We had just had a cold front move in where we started to see a little bit of snow, so it was the perfect day for making soup. If you follow the news you’ll have seen that little West Coast snow front turned into a big, two-part blizzard that dropped about 60 cm of snow in my back yard. Needless to say, I was grateful for the leftover soup that weekend.

Now that the snow is starting to melt again I’m more than ready to give up my shovel, drop my winter jacket, and start having fun in the kitchen again. What could be more fun than making a milkshake?

I’m not talking about any milkshake either; if you follow Instagram or Pinterest you’ll have already seen what the latest milkshakes look like. They go beyond just chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry and have chocolate bars added in, sprinkles on the glasses, and in some cases even cotton candy on top.

If you’re ready to try something fun in the kitchen again I’ve got a few marvelous milkshake recipes, and I’ve even created a recipe of my own. Be sure to watch my “How to make a freak shake” video below.

Shelly’s Freak Shakefreak shake for valentine's day

This recipe is one of my own inventions adapted from different Instagram videos I watched. Because it’s almost Valentine’s day I thought I’d create a freak shake, also known as a milkshake where anything goes. It might look like it’s got a lot going on, but it’s pretty smooth when you drink it. Watch my video to see how easy it is to make.

Ingredients

Scoop of Nutella
Variety of sprinkles
4 scoops of chocolate ice cream
1/2 cup milk
Chocolate sauce
Whip cream
Any type of toppings (chocolate pieces, Fudgesicles, mini-cup cakes, bite sized brownies, or anything small you’d like to add in)

Directions

Add Nutella around the rim of your glass.
Dip glass in sprinkles.
Using immersion blender, add ice cream and milk to cup and blend
Coat inside of mug with chocolate sauce.
Pour milkshake in mug.
Add whip cream
Top with your toppings, add a straw, and enjoy.
